A furious Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez took to liberal safe haven MSNBC Wednesday night to trash CNN for “platforming” former President Donald Trump in a town hall that allowed him to directly make his case to the American people.
The New York congresswoman blamed the network’s hosting of Trump on a “series of extremely irresponsible decisions” that elevated lies about the 2020 election and a rewriting of history in the hourlong town hall which saw Republican voters cheer the former president as he used moderator Kaitlan Collins as a foil.
Speaking to an MSBNC host, AOC let loose:
“I know you said you will not comment on the platforming of such atrocious disinformation, but I would. I think it was a profoundly irresponsible decision. I don’t think that I would be doing my job if I did not say that. What we saw tonight was a series of extremely irresponsible decisions that put a sexual abuse victim at risk, that put that person at risk in front of a national audience… I could not have disagreed with it more. It was shameful.”
The “Squad” member was alluding to a decision Wednesday in the E. Jean Carroll case which saw a jury award $5 million in damages against Trump in a case where the plaintiff alleged she was raped. Jurists found President Trump innocent on that charge however found him liable of battery and defamation. In response, Trump took to Truth Social to claim he did not know Carroll and slammed the decision as a “disgrace.”
Reviews of the CNN town hall by media prognosticators and liberal commentators have largely been negative, who said the network put Trump in a room full of friendly Republican voters and tied the hands of a host who was not able to fact-check his false assertions about the 2020 election and his defense of Mike Pence on January 6th. In some cases, the president pulled out paper copies of his tweets leading up to the January 6th, 2021 riots to point out he made peaceful statements and claim he did not encourage the attack on the Capitol building.
