Former First Lady Melania Trump thanked supporters for their condolences and well wishes in a heartfelt statement released a little over a week after her mother, Amalija Knavs, passed away at the age of 78.
“On behalf of my family, I would like to extend our deepest gratitude for the love and support that you have showered upon us throughout this journey of loss and grief,” the former First Lady wrote in an X post. “We will cherish the beautiful memories of my beloved mother, and forever keep her light in our hearts.”
Amalija Knavs, 78, and her father, Viktor Knavs, 79, have both been living at Mar-a-Lago in recent years, where her daughter and grandson, Barron Trump, also reside. The former first lady had been absent from a number of events in recent weeks while taking care of her ailing mother.
While delivering her mother’s eulogy earlier this week, Melania highlighted her “unwavering dedication and hard work that truly made her exceptional.” She also shared insights into her mother’s resilience, “Like a string that holds everything together, she balanced the demands of motherhood with grace and poise.”
Former President Trump was forced to attend the defamation trial stemming from accusations made by author E Jean Carroll while funeral arrangements were being made. Trump’s lawyers had asked the judge to delay the trial for a day to allow him to attend the funeral, but that request was denied. Trump chose to skip Thursday’s court session rather than miss the funeral.
