POLL: Trump Surges With Puerto Rican Voters In Florida

Published

on

A new survey from Signal Polling And Analytics — which was conducted after former President Donald Trump’s rally in Madison Square Garden — found the former president leading among Puerto Rican Americans after losing the demographic handily in 2020. Left-wing pundits and political leaders have pounced on a joke about the island made by insult comedian Tony Hinchcliffe in a comedy set towards the beginning of the event.

The poll — which was conducted between October 26-28 — found former President Trump leading among all Latino voters by 10 percentage points. If these numbers come to fruition, it would mean massive gains for the Republican nominee when compared with his performance in 2020, when 65 percent of Latino voters broke for President Biden, according to exit polls.

In Florida, Cubans were the most supportive of the former president’s re-election bid, as Trump received a 28-point lead among Cuban American respondents. The poll also provided an incredible result for Trump among Puerto Rican American voters, with the pollster’s final survey finding a two-point lead for the former president among the demographic.

This would represent another astonishing gain from 2020, as Puerto Ricans went for Biden by a wide margin in 2020.

“Trump lost Puerto Ricans in Florida 66-34 in 2020. PA results were similar. The most recent poll that dropped from Cygnal, conducted mostly after the Madison Square Garden rally, shows Donald Trump winning Florida Puerto Ricans by two points,” elections analyst Red Eagle Politics wrote in an X post. “This is disastrous for Democrats.”

The Harris-Walz Campaign has attempted to capitalize on Hinchcliffe’s joke in the days following the rally. Harris has made multiple ads directly appealing to Puerto Rican voters while a number of celebrities have urged people not to vote for Trump.

Democrats have struggled to convert the joke into a successful line of attack, however, thanks in part to comments made by President Biden, who labeled all Trump supporters as human “garbage” in an interview with CNN earlier this week. The White House has since tried to claim that Biden did not actually make the statement — even though it is on video — and have gone so far as to edit the interview’s transcript.
