JUST IN: ‘Gas Leak’ Shuts Down Voting Precinct In Crucial Battleground
A potential voter turnout issue has emerged in the critical battleground state of Michigan after a gas leak led to the closure of one of Northville’s two voting precincts on Election Day.
The city announced around 12:30 p.m. that Precinct 1, located at the Community Center on Main Street, would be temporarily closed while crews work to resolve the issue.
Voters who typically cast ballots at Precinct 1 are now being directed to Hillside Middle School, which will serve as the alternate voting location until the gas leak is repaired, FOX2 reported. Consumers Energy has dispatched teams to the scene and is working to fix the leak as swiftly as possible, according to city officials.
While authorities have said that the closure is temporary, this disruption comes as Northville—a city within the key battleground state of Michigan—experiences high turnout for an election poised to impact both state and national results.
The timing raises concerns about voter turnout, particularly as Michigan is expected to play a pivotal role in the election. Voting locations in Michigan will remain open until 8 p.m.
With 15 electoral votes, Michigan stands as one of the key battleground states that could sway the national outcome. The state has alternated between Democratic and Republican, with Donald Trump narrowly winning in 2016 and Joe Biden reclaiming it for Democrats in 2020.
This is a developing story…
