CNN’s Scott Jennings Leaves Panel Speechless After Trump Victory: ‘This Is A Mandate’
Scott Jennings delivered an unvarnished analysis of Donald Trump’s decisive return to the White Hous in a moment that left the CNN panel in stunned silence. Following Trump’s win over Vice President Kamala Harris, Jennings said that Trump’s victory extends beyond the Electoral College, marking the first time a Republican has won the national popular vote since 2004.
“This is a mandate. This won the national popular vote for the first time since, for a Republican, for the first time since 2004,” Jennings began, capturing the significance of the win for Republicans. “This is a big deal. This isn’t backing into the office. This is a mandate to do what you said you were going to do. Get the economy working again for regular working-class Americans. Fix immigration. Try to get crime under control. Try to reduce the chaos in the world.”
“I think I’m interpreting the results tonight as the revenge of just the regular old working-class American,” he continued. “The anonymous American who has been crushed, insulted, condescended to. They’re not garbage. They’re not Nazis. They’re just regular people who get up and go to work every day and are trying to make a better life for their kids.”
With his unfiltered commentary, Jennings criticized the narratives that dominated media discussions leading up to the election, suggesting that many Americans felt ignored and even insulted. “They feel like they have been told to shut up when they have complained about the things that are hurting them in their own lives,” Jennings added.

Jennings went on to critique the political and media establishment for misinterpreting the pulse of the country, hinting that their forecasts overlooked key economic struggles Americans faced. He pointed out how narratives about Puerto Rico, women lying to their husbands, or symbolic figures like Tim Walz in camo hats were distractions from the real issues voters cared about: “We were just ignoring the fundamentals, inflation, people feeling like they were barely able to tread water at best.”
“For all of us who cover elections and talk about elections and do this on a day-to-day basis, we have to figure out how to understand, talk to, and listen to the half of the country that rose up tonight.” The panel remained silent, absorbing Jennings’ words, as he unapologetically highlighted the divide between political elites and the voters who pushed Trump back into the Oval Office.
Election night 2024 has a familiar ring for many conservatives, reminiscent of the media shock that followed Trump’s unexpected win over Hillary Clinton in 2016. Tuesday night also dealt a sobering reality check to CNN’s Van Jones, who appeared visibly shaken as results showed Trump on the verge of his remarkable political comeback.
“There are African-American women who know a little bit about being talked down to, and know a little bit about having their economic dreams crushed, who tried to dream a big dream over the past couple of months. And tonight they’re trading in a lot of hope for a lot of hurt,” Jones said in an almost tearful moment. “They thought tomorrow morning they’re gonna walk out with their shoulders back a little bit,” he continued. “Maybe able to breathe for the first time and feel like they belong someplace.”

“They did everything that they knew how to do.” Jones finished, “It’s not the elites that are going to pay the price. It’s people who woke up this morning with a dream and are going to bed with a nightmare.”
Once again, the press’s assumptions and narratives have been upended.
