John Brennan Under Fire, Exposed For Voting For Communist After Attacking Tulsi Gabbard

Former CIA director John Brennan has come under fire after excoriating President-elect Donald Trump’s selection of Tulsi Gabbard as U.S. intelligence chief, with some critics reviving his own admission that he once voted for a devout communist.

Earlier this week, Brennan, the clandestine service leader under former President Barack Obama, concluded Gabbard “doesn’t have the right perspective” to serve as Director of National Intelligence. The former Democratic congresswoman and vocal Israel ally was selected by Trump after endorsing him during the campaign and helping lead a coalition of Democratic voters to abandon Vice President Kamala Harris. Speaking on MSNBC, Brennan said he has heard from a number of high-level individuals who have expressed “concerns” about Gabbard’s appointment.

“Clearly, Tulsi Gabbard has taken actions and made statements over the past several years that really raise serious questions about her common sense, her judgment, as well as her political sympathies. Cozying up to Putin as well as maybe Bashar al-Assad,” Brennan stated, referencing the presidents of Russia and Syria.

Brennan’s blustering diatribe against Gabbard was not the only one levied this week. Abigail Spanberger (D-VA), U.S. representative and former CIA case officer, said she was “appalled” by Trump’s pick. “As a former CIA case officer, I saw the men and women of the U.S. intelligence community put their lives on the line every day for this country — and I am appalled at the nomination of Tulsi Gabbard to lead DNI,” Spanberger wrote on X.

But Brennan’s criticism especially fell flat for some who resurfaced an interview where the longtime defender of American interests admitted to having once voted for a communist candidate for president. Ronald Radosh with the Hudson Institute highlighted a polygraph taken by Brennan when he first joined the CIA where he was asked a routine question about whether he has ever “worked with or for a group that was dedicated to overthrowing the US.” Brennan expounded on his answer during a recent meeting at the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation’s annual conference. “I froze,” he recalled. “This was back in 1980, and I thought back to a previous election where I voted, and I voted for the Communist Party candidate.”

For some, Brennan’s admission is perhaps the final nail in the coffin for a Washington, D.C. creature who is emblematic of the need for reform promised by Trump. Throughout his career, Brennan, 69, has downplayed the CIA’s spying on Americans during Senate hearings as well as the civilian casualties of President Obama’s ramped-up use of drone strikes. During the 2016 campaign, Brennan stated that it was a “well-founded” belief that President Trump’s campaign colluded with the Russian government, a baseless theory later vindicated by special counsel John Durham. He joined over 50 former intelligence officials who released a letter through the Hillary Clinton campaign falsely stating that the Hunter Biden laptop was a product of “Russian disinformation.”

Although Gabbard, a lifelong Democrat, is far from conservative, MAGA supporters are enthusiastic about her America First credentials, especially when it comes to untangling America’s involvement in overseas wars. She has spoken about the need to wind down financial support for Ukraine while bolstering Israel in its fight against Hamas and Hezbollah. The 43-year-old describes her foreign affairs views as “isolationist.”

Charlie Kirk summarized Brennan best for fans of Trump’s pick. “John Brennan is the exact sort of lifelong Washington D.C. parasite who must be stamped out. He’s a dishonest, authoritarian pig who thinks he has the right to lie to the American people at will and either ignore or rig the results of our elections. He belongs in a prison cell,” he wrote on X.
