NEW: MTG Secures Major Role In Trump Administration

President-elect Donald Trump has reportedly tapped Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) to chair the newly formed congressional subcommittee that will work closely with Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy on the ambitious Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).

This positions Greene at the forefront of one of Trump’s boldest efforts to reshape the federal government during his second term. The DOGE initiative, unveiled earlier this year, aims to cut waste, streamline federal agencies, and roll back regulations. Greene’s appointment signals Trump’s commitment to aligning congressional oversight with DOGE’s goals.

In an interview with Steve Bannon, Greene described the appointment as the culmination of her mission in Congress. “This is the whole reason why I ran for Congress,” she told Bannon. “I ran for Congress to gut the federal government of waste, fraud, and abuse, and get rid of the unelected bureaucrats and the horrible spending and ridiculous programs that have brought us to $36 trillion in debt.”

She added that her new role will allow her to directly contribute to realizing Trump’s vision for a more efficient federal government. “In 2020, I was one of those people that was upset about Paul Ryan and about how the Republican-controlled Congress never got Trump’s agenda done,” she said. “This is an opportunity where I will finally get to work on the very things that led me to run for Congress in the first place.”

Greene’s subcommittee will focus on oversight, aiming to expose inefficiencies and redundancies in government programs. She hinted at plans to reveal “things that people have heard about but have never seen.”

“This subcommittee on oversight is an extremely important piece,” Greene said. “It’s how Congress can work hand-in-hand with DOGE to expose everything that needs to be exposed.”

In November 2024, President-elect Trump introduced the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), an advisory body co-led by Musk and Ramaswamy. Contrary to what its name might imply, DOGE is not an official federal executive department but a task force focused on increasing federal government efficiency.

The acronym, a playful nod to the Dogecoin cryptocurrency often associated with Musk, underscores the innovative approach of its leadership. Musk and Ramaswamy aim to streamline government operations by proposing to slash the federal workforce by up to 75%, reduce the number of federal agencies from over 400 to fewer than 100, and cut the federal budget by as much as $2 trillion by eliminating waste, discontinuing redundant agencies, and downsizing staff.

Trump announced, “It will become, potentially, ‘The Manhattan Project’ of our time.”

DOGE is set to complete its mission by July 4, 2026, Trump said. “A smaller Government, with more efficiency and less bureaucracy, will be the perfect gift to America on the 250th Anniversary of The Declaration of Independence.”

In an opinion piece for The Wall Street Journal, Musk and Ramaswamy addressed the challenges ahead. “Our nation was founded on the basic idea that the people we elect run the government. That isn’t how America functions today,” they wrote.

“We are prepared for the onslaught from entrenched interests in Washington. We expect to prevail. Now is the moment for decisive action.”
