NEW: Kash Patel Secures Major Endorsement For FBI Director
A national coalition of law enforcement officers rallied to Kash Patel’s defense on Friday, issuing an endorsement of his bid to serve as the next FBI director.
In a press release from the National Police Association, its leaders tout Patel’s performance in national security, law enforcement, and public service, all demonstrative of his “unwavering commitment to upholding the rule of law, defending justice, and protecting the American people.” Patel, 44, has served in prominent federal roles including senior counsel for the U.S. House Intelligence Committee, senior director to the Counterterrorism Directorate at the U.S. National Security Council, and a key advisor to Congressman Devin Nunes (R-CA) during a GOP-led investigation into the Trump-Russia hoax.

“Throughout his distinguished career, Kash Patel has consistently prioritized transparency, accountability, and the safety of our nation. As a federal prosecutor, he worked alongside law enforcement to dismantle international drug trafficking organizations, combat violent crime, and bring dangerous offenders to justice. His tenure as a legal liaison to the Joint Special Operations Command further illustrates his ability to operate effectively in high-stakes environments, forging critical partnerships across federal, state, and local agencies,” the association wrote. “The law enforcement community knows that effective leadership at the FBI is essential for building public trust and enhancing coordination across all levels of policing. Kash Patel’s proven record of leadership, expertise in counterterrorism and intelligence, and ability to navigate complex legal and operational challenges make him the ideal candidate to restore faith in the FBI’s mission and ensure it remains a steadfast ally to our nation’s police forces.”
They added: “We firmly believe that Kash Patel’s appointment as FBI Director will mark a pivotal moment for law enforcement and public safety across the United States. His leadership will bring a renewed focus on collaboration, ethical standards, and the relentless pursuit of justice. The National Police Association strongly endorses Kash Patel and urges his confirmation as Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. We are confident that under his stewardship, the FBI will thrive in its vital mission to protect and serve the American people.”
Patel’s nomination comes at a time when Americans’ trust in the FBI is at an all-time low, according to a recent CNN analysis. Just 41% hold a favorable view of the domestic law enforcement organization, marking a sharp decline from the 59% support it enjoyed 10 years ago. Only 24% feel that the FBI is doing an “excellent or good” job compared to 62% who said the same in 2014. In between, the FBI spearheaded an investigation into false allegations that the 2016 Trump campaign colluded with Russian sources to win the presidency and pressured social media companies to stifle dissent about pandemic lockdown measures. The body blows have taken their toll on an agency which Patel has promised to tear down and rebuild.
“I think Patel has real reason to believe that Americans would go along with changes he might potentially make at the FBI, and there’s a reason why Donald Trump feels like he can make this change,” network data analyst Harry Enten said.
