‘Dukes Of Hazard’ Star Passes Away

Mark Withers, whose prolific Hollywood career spanned hits from “The Dukes of Hazard” to “Stranger Things,” has lost his battle against pancreatic cancer at 77 years old.

Withers died on November 22nd according to a statement to Fox News from his daughter, Jessie Withers. “He confronted his illness with the same strength and dignity he brought to his craft, creating a legacy of warmth, humor, and dedication, along with his remarkable ability to make every role unforgettable,” she said. “Mark’s enduring talent and commitment to the industry will be fondly remembered by colleagues, friends, and fans alike.”

He became best known for playing the role of Ted Dinard in the first season of the 1981 show “Dynasty.” Other credits to his name include appearances on “Stranger Things,” “The Dukes of Hazard,” “Dallas,” “True Blood,” “Criminal Minds,” “Matlock,” “L.A. Law,” and more, Fox reports. Some of his film credits include “Basic Training,” “Bolden,” “The Ultimate Life,” and more. He began his career with a humble entrance into TV commercials, participating in spots for big-name brands like McDonald’s, Folger’s Coffee, Irish Spring, American Airlines, Tarter Control Crest, and more.

Born in 1947 in Binghamton, New York, Withers earned his Bachelor of Arts in acting and directing from California State University in Los Angeles and later a Master of Fine Arts from Minnesota State University.  Variety reported on Withers’ athletic endeavors while attending Penn State University: There, he earned an NCAA football scholarship to pay his way through undergrad.

During the twilight of his career, Withers kept up a frenetic pace of appearances on shows like  “Sense8,” “Castle,” “Drop Dead Diva,” and “Reckless.” He also had various roles in production on films like “Turn Around Jake,” and other television credits include “Wonder Woman,” “The Greatest American Hero,” “Magnum, P.I.,” “The Dukes of Hazard,” “Hart to Hart,” “Remington Steele,” “Hotel,” “The King of Queen,” and “Frasier.”

In addition to his daughter Jessie, Withers is survived by his wife Haiyan Liu Withers. The family asked for donations in his memory to be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
