NEW: Bizarre CIA Docs From The ’80s Claim Mars Was Populated By ‘Large People’

Declassified CIA documents from the 1980s have reignited curiosity about Mars. These documents, reported by DailyMail, claim that astral projection experiments revealed an ancient Martian civilization—a population of “very large people” who lived in pyramidal structures and battled environmental collapse over a million years ago.

The revelations stem from a report titled “Mars Exploration May 22, 1984,” part of the now-defunct Project Stargate, a U.S. government program that investigated paranormal phenomena like remote viewing and psychokinesis. This effort was ostensibly designed to gain a Cold War edge, leveraging purported psychic abilities to gather intelligence.

The CIA document describes a subject using “astral projection” to mentally travel to Mars. Guided by geographic coordinates and cues provided in a sealed envelope, the subject described seeing a barren Martian landscape marked by obelisks, pyramids, and remnants of an ancient civilization. The subject recounted encountering “tall, thin” beings clad in lightweight, form-fitting garments. These individuals were described as a dying population, grappling with the destruction of their environment. The subject claimed the Martians were seeking refuge, using their pyramid-like structures as shelters during violent storms.

“They’re very philosophic about it,” the subject reported. “They’re looking for a way to survive, and they just can’t.”

The vision included a narrative of migration, with the subject describing how some Martians left their planet aboard large, boat-like structures in search of a new home. The environment they reached was depicted as volatile, filled with volcanoes and strange vegetation. The alleged Martian diaspora has drawn comparisons to Earth’s ancient myths of advanced civilizations and unexplained monuments.

“All right, now before you leave this individual, ask him if there is any way that you, ask him if he knows who you are and is there any way you can help him in his present predicament?” the moderator asked the subject.

“All I get is that they must just wait. Doesn’t know who I am. Think he perceives I’m a hallucination or something,” the subject said. “[I] get an impression of ah… don’t know what the hell it is. It looks like the inside of a larger boat. Very rounded walls and shiny metal.”

Project Stargate, headquartered at Fort Meade, Maryland, operated from the 1970s until its closure in 1995. The program explored the potential of extrasensory perception (ESP) to assist in military and intelligence operations. Participants, referred to as “remote viewers,” were tasked with locating hostages, identifying military threats, and, in this case, exploring the cosmos.

The Mars experiment represents one of the more outlandish facets of the project. Skeptics have long dismissed such efforts as pseudoscience, and the government officially terminated Stargate after evaluations deemed its findings inconclusive. However, the report’s recent resurfacing has ignited debates among UFO enthusiasts and conspiracy theorists.

While the CIA probed Mars via psychic phenomena, NASA has taken a more grounded approach, deploying rovers and orbiters to search for signs of water and microbial life. Thus far, no evidence supports the existence of advanced civilizations, let alone one resembling the vision described in the Stargate report.

As science continues to probe the Red Planet, questions about its past—grounded or otherworldly—remain tantalizingly unanswered.
