Vice President-elect J.D. Vance has shared a heartwarming moment with his three-year-old daughter Mirabel, his “sous chef” who helped prepare a delicious side dish for the family’s Christmas Day meal.

On Christmas Eve, Vance and his daughter, the youngest of his three children, set up shop in the family kitchen to follow his grandmother’s famous family biscuit recipe. Working with his wife Usha, the trio filmed the whole endeavor in a candid three-and-a-half minute clip uploaded to X. “Every American family should have biscuits on their table during Christmas dinner,” Vance told viewers while Mirabel looked on a little distractedly. She eventually joined in, scooping out two cups of sugar as Vance grated a block of frozen butter, his grandmother’s “trick to good biscuits,” he explained.

The Republican credited Usha with manning the camera for his demonstration, allowing him and Mirabel to keep their focuses on churning out the best possible biscuits for the holiday. “If you over-mix it, your biscuits are going to be tough, and you don’t want that. You want a biscuit that kind of falls apart,” said Vance as he continued mashing his mixture. Mirabel looked on absentmindedly, swaying in anticipation of her next assignment. As it turned out, the final step required of Mirabel and her brothers Ewan and Vivek was to taste how the dish turned out. “Merry Christmas!” they shouted in unison.

The Vance family hasn’t been nearly as prevalent on the campaign trail as President-elect Donald Trump’s clan, but the outgoing U.S. senator is no less proud of his wife Usha and the life they’ve built together. “Eleven years ago I brought my new girlfriend to the Ohio state fair. We came back today with three kids in tow and I got to judge the rib competition (the toddler helped). What an awesome birthday!” Vance wrote alongside a picture posted in 2022, according to People. Ewan, 7, and Vivek, 4, are frequently by their father’s side, and he isn’t shy about showing them some of his hometown’s best dishes. “Baby’s first Skyline. (She loved it!),” he wrote in June 2022 shortly after Mirabel was born — she and her parents sat down at a Cincinnati restaurant for spaghetti and chili.

The homespun nature of Vance’s family moment was appreciated by followers. “I love how wholesome and normal this is. Something we’ve been lacking,” user Brandon Morse replied. Influencer Andy Ngo added, “I appreciate that this was just a simple home recording. Happy Christmas.” “We love the authenticity. It feels like you actually represent the people!” another cheered.
