WATCH: Bill Clinton Accused Of Falling Asleep During Jimmy Carter’s Funeral

What most took as a somber setting for the laying to rest of America’s oldest-ever former president may have become a moment of sleepy slumber for former President Bill Clinton.

Eagle-eyed viewers of Jimmy Carter’s funeral spotted the 42nd president swaying in his chair, eyes closed, next to an alert Hillary Clinton. While it’s uncertain how long Clinton sat there in a somnolent reflection on the passing of Carter, viral video clips circulating online count out at least eight solid seconds of him resting his eyes, as they say. One of the funniest takes came from conservative influencer One Bad Dude. “What do you think Bill is dreaming about?” he posted on X, tying the clip of Clinton in with the dulcet chimes of a children’s lullaby song.

For followers of President Joe Biden’s doziest days in office, Clinton’s funeral faux pas is a fond reminder of all the gaffes America has enjoyed – or suffered – under an elderly president long past his expiration date. The shock value of seeing Biden fall asleep at international summits wore off long ago, and Carter’s funeral offered critics of Biden one last chance to see an old friend of his in similar form. X users sought to win the internet for the day with their predictions about what was jogging Clinton’s mind in his sleep. “Melania,” said one commenter, calling to mind the Democrat’s lascivious ways around White House women. “He’s dreaming of Hillary’s being the next State Funeral,” another joked. One posted a comic book-style series of photographs showing Clinton talking with his daughter and Hillary suggesting she had something to do with the death of Jeffrey Epstein, the notorious pedophile whose island was frequently visited by Clinton.

At 78 years old, Clinton is the same age as George W. Bush and President-elect Donald Trump, both of whom were in the audience and far more awake and ambulatory than him. An alert “W” and his wife Laura were seen on C-SPAN looking on as the Baptist Carter received his final prayers, not a hint of sleepiness between them. Trump appeared in good spirts, for obvious reasons, and at one point leaned over to Barack Obama, 63, and whispered something that made the Democrat flash a big smile. Vice President Kamala Harris, turning around from one row in front, appeared none too pleased that she was being left out of the joke.
