BREAKING: Neil Cavuto’s Replacement At Fox News Is Announced
It’s only taken Fox News one month to name the replacement of longtime host Neil Cavuto, who announced he would be leaving the network he has called home after 28 years in December.
Cavuto, 66, has been one of the last remaining fixtures at the network since its 1996 inception, leaving an established career in business reporting at CNBC to jump on Roger Ailes’s ship as he sailed America’s mainstream media into uncharted waters. The change proved wildly successful for Cavuto, who just several years later held multiple titles, including Vice President of Fox News’ news division, in addition to being one of its regular on-air talents. Now that Cavuto has hung up his microphone, the show will be hosted by Will Cain, 49, who Fox announced as Cavuto’s replacement.
“The Will Cain Show” will take over Cavuto’s 4 p.m. hour, one of a handful of changes being made to the network’s weekend lineup. Cain’s new show will be “a comprehensive look at the news of the day in a signature podcast style,” the network said in a statement to The Hill. Cain, currently a co-host of “Fox & Friends Weekend,” will see his current seat filled by pundit Charlie Hurt. “Fox Report” and “The Big Weekend Show” will both become two-hour programs on Saturdays and Sundays without Cavuto. In a statement of his own, Cain, a former broadcaster at ESPN, said he was honored to be asked to fill Cavuto’s shoes. “It has been an honor to wake up with America these past four years and I am thrilled to apply my background in news, law, entertainment and business to help our viewers better understand the headlines through thought-provoking content and analysis every weekday afternoon,” Cain said.
As the longtime host of “Your World,” Cavuto’s reporting has become a go-to resource for breaking news in conservative circles. Sources close to the negotiations say Fox offered him a renewal, but that Cavuto felt his time would be better spent elsewhere. Employees say he remains a beloved presence at the studios and that there is no bad blood between Cavuto and network executives. “Neil Cavuto’s illustrious career has been a master class in journalism, and we’re extremely proud of his incredible 28-year run with FOX News Media,” Fox said in a statement announcing his departure. “His programs have defined business news and set the standard for the entire industry. We wish him a heartfelt farewell and all the best on his next chapter.”
