NEW: DOGE Uncovers NIH Grants To Prevent Pregnancy In ‘Transgender Boys’
The Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) cancelled several grants from the National Institute of Health (NIH) on Tuesday, including a grant worth half-a-million-dollars that went towards “pregnancy prevention program for transgender boys.”
DOGE — an Elon Musk-led initiative aimed at recommending spending cuts to lawmakers — shared a number of the most recent recommendations in an X post Tuesday. The latest recommendations included a $699,000 grant for studying “cannabis use” among “sexual minority gender diverse individuals,” $740,000 for examining “social networks” among “black and Latino sexual minority men in New Jersey,” $50,000 for assessing “sexual health” among “LGTBQ+ Latinx youth in an agricultural community,” and $75,000 for researching “structural racism.”
The most mind-boggling NIH grant uncovered by DOGE was an “LGB+ inclusive teen pregnancy prevention program for transgender boys,” worth $600,000.
“Youth who are assigned female at birth (AFAB) and identify as transgender (e.g., as non-binary or as trans boys), not as girls, are at risk for negative sexual health outcomes yet are effectively excluded from sexual health programs because gender-diverse youth do not experience the cisgender, heteronormative teen sexual education messaging available to them as salient or applicable,” the grant’s description reads.
“This lack of programming is likely contributing to obstacles to sexual health: Data suggest that AFAB trans-identified youth may be less likely to use condoms when having sex with people who have penises and are at least as likely as cisgender girls to be pregnant. This health inequity must be addressed.”
The program aimed to provide “inclusive sexual education,” condoms and “sexual health support” to transgender individuals, primarily in rural areas. “The foundation for this R01 proposal is our work with Girl2Girl, a text messaging-based sexual health program designed for cisgender sexual minority girls 14-18 years of age,” the description continues.
According to the grant’s “Public Health Relevance” section, “youth who are assigned female at birth (AFAB) and identify as transgender (e.g., as non-binary or as trans boys), not as girls, are at risk for negative sexual health outcomes yet are effectively excluded from sexual health programs because gender-diverse youth do not experience the cisgender, heteronormative teen sexual education messaging available to them as salient or applicable.”

DOGE has uncovered a number of bizarre social programs such as those uncovered on Tuesday, including one $532,000 program that researched gender reassignment surgeries on animals. President Trump made reference to the findings during his joint address to Congress last week.
