Dems Humiliated After Now-Deleted Post Attempting To Expose Trump Backfires
Summer has been blistering for Democrats amid the passage of the “Big, Beautiful Bill,” endless crackdowns on illegal immigration, and party leadership in disarray. Nothing illustrated their circumstances better this week than the misfire of a social media attack on President Donald Trump over the high cost of grocery prices.
Social media staffers at the Democratic National Committee were forced to retract their attack on Trump just hours after receiving widespread mockery for unintentionally revealing that a period of persistently high prices had mostly occurred under former President Joe Biden. Since Trump took office, the cost of bread, milk, eggs, and other perishables has mostly flattened out, albeit at higher prices than before the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Trump’s America,” trumpeted the official DNC account with a graph showing a surge in the prices of cheese, alcohol, groceries, dairy, produce, and meat since 2019.
It wasn’t long before Trump’s allies responded with an illustration of its own, pointing out that 80% of the chart, including the years with rocketing price increases, were during Biden’s tenure.
Some X users pointed to Democrats’ lack of critical thinking skills for their current morass.
“No wonder the DNC barely scrapes by, they are not the brightest,” one user wrote while quoting the DNC’s post, which has since been scrubbed.
“Self-own by the Democrats,” declared another.
For opponents of President Trump, the setback is another reminder of how badly off-message Democrats remain after being shut out of power through 2026. They have long trailed GOP attacks on Biden, which effectively saddled him with the high price of eggs, butter, and other everyday goods that even had Joe Scarborough scratching his head.

Trump, in contrast, has largely escaped unscathed after framing the continued high prices as a holdover from the aggressive spending of the Biden era. Republicans will return home to their districts next month, where they are expected to tout tax savings in the Big, Beautiful Bill as their contribution to helping American households afford the rising cost of food.
As the Western Journal noted, Democrats like Hunter Biden are still doing their best to drag the party’s discourse back to the treatment of his father. At the same time, DNC Chair Ken Martin is grappling with anemic fundraising and insider fighting after the ouster of former co-vice chair David Hogg and labor leaders who doubt his rudderless leadership.
Polling continues to show that the party’s standing remains at record lows while Trump and the GOP are on the ascendency with minority voters, a fact that the New York Times delved into this week with a deep think piece on how Democrats lost their traditional voting bloc.
