WATCH: Baseball Legend Takes Hilarious Jab At Woke WNBA Star
Former Philadelphia Phillies star and current color commentator John Kruk left his co-commentator in stitches with a hilarious jab at WNBA star Angel Reese during the club’s away series against the Chicago White Sox.
Phillies play-by-play announcer Tom McCarthy took time in the sixth inning to wish a happy birthday to his friend and former high school basketball teammate Bob Wyskowski. “He was a heck of a basketball player,” McCarthy said. “Played at Rider and Monmouth. It’s all because I missed a lot of shots and he cleaned them up.”
Kruk couldn’t resist the opportunity to poke fun at Reese, saying “I don’t want to say anything, but there’s someone here in Chicago that does that a lot.”
Reese, the arch rival of Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark, has become somewhat of a punchline in the world of sports due to her low shooting percentage and high rebounding rate on her own misses. Reese currently leads the league in rebounds-per-game, leading to the joke that much of it is due to her own missed shots.
“That is true, she gets her points,” McCarthy replied, to which Kruk shot back with, “She gets her rebounds too.”
Reese, who was in the middle of her own game when Kruk’s comments were made, seemingly responded to the jab in an X post after the game. “Clout is one helluva DRUG. like it really gets to a point,” she wrote. She further doubled down on TikTok, saying, “To anybody that’s been mean to me, and you’re having a hard time in life, good.”
Kurk is evidently not having a “hard time in life,” as he is universally loved by Phillies fans and the baseball world as a whole due to his time with ESPN. Reese’s Chicago Sky, however, are indeed having a rough time, as the team currently sits in second-to-last place.
