Red State Launches Its Own Version Of ‘Alligator Alcatraz’

A red midwestern state is preparing to launch its own version of “Alligator Alcatraz,” the terrifying holding facility for migrants in Florida that the Trump administration opened last month.

Indiana lawmakers are reportedly working with U.S. Customs and Immigration Enforcement to finalize a facility that may eventually hold hundreds of migrants awaiting deportation, according to Fox News. Informally termed the “Speedway Slammer,” the facility comes as part of ICE’s broader effort to add a total of 80,000 beds to immigration detention centers over the next year.

The new Indiana center is expected to add up to 1,000 beds, offering ICE a tantalizing change to hold illegal immigrants captured in blue cities like Chicago, which became an epicenter of the migrant crisis under the Biden administration.

“We are proud to work with President Trump and Secretary Noem as they remove the worst of the worst with this innovative partnership,” Indiana Gov. Mike Braun said in a statement on Tuesday. “Indiana is taking a comprehensive and collaborative approach to combating illegal immigration and will continue to lead the way among states.”

Funds for the facility come from the Big, Beautiful Bill signed into law last month by President Donald Trump.

According to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, the “Speedway Slammer” is part of its 287(g) program, which fosters collaboration between ICE and local law enforcement willing to partner with the apprehension and deportation of illegal immigrants.

“COMING SOON to Indiana: The Speedway Slammer. Today, we’re announcing a new partnership with the state of Indiana to expand detention bed space by 1,000 beds,” Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem said in a statement. “Thanks to Governor Braun for his partnership to help remove the worst of the worst out of our country. If you are in America illegally, you could find yourself in Indiana’s Speedway Slammer. Avoid arrest and self deport now using the CBP Home App.”

The Trump administration has pushed the boundaries of immigration enforcement in order to speed up its effort to deport millions of arrivals over the past four years. Although illegal border crossings have fallen to negligible levels in recent months, up to 12 million illegal immigrants are believed to have entered the country following expanded asylum protections put in place by former President Joe Biden.

Advertising campaigns by DHS have offered illegal immigrants up to $1,000 to self-deport along with the chance to be returned into a queue to appeal for legal residence. The program is only available to those who do not have a criminal record, according to Fox News.
