Conservative Actress Wins Major Lawsuit Against Disney

A beloved Hollywood actress has settled her suit against Disney, alleging discrimination after she shared some of her conservative views on social media.

Gina Carano was dismissed from the set of “Star Wars” series “The Mandalorian” in 2021 after Disney became aware of her posts. She immediately sued, and Thursday’s agreement brings the yearslong saga to an end.

“I have come to an agreement with Disney/Lucasfilm @disney @Lucasfilm which I believe is the best outcome for all parties involved. I hope this brings some healing to the force… I hope to make you proud. I am excited to flip the page and move onto the next chapter. My desires remain in the arts, which is where I hope you will join me,” Carano said in a statement.

Carano, 43, had been cast as Cara Dune in the “Star Wars” universe when she was fired in February 2021 after Disney objected to her posts. She alleged in her suit that the company, which has lurched between controversies about its “woke” programming for years, fired her for expressing conservative beliefs about a number of subjects.

The former MMA star hasn’t been shy about commenting on news of the day, whether it was the Black Lives Matter protests and riots in 2020, pandemic lockdowns, or transgender accommodations in public schools. That year, she compared the treatment of conservatives like herself to Jews in World War II when she posted a picture of a Jewish woman in the city of Lwow being savagely beaten by Nazi soldiers.

She equated the modern silencing of conservatives to the extermination of Jewish Germans during the Holocaust.

“Jews were beaten in the streets, not by Nazi soldiers but by their neighbors…. even by children, because history is edited, most people today don’t realize that to get to the point where Nazi soldiers could easily round up thousands of Jews, the government first made their own neighbors hate them simply for being Jews. How is that any different from hating someone for their political views?” the actress posted at the time.

Disney saw it differently, letting her go for the stated reason of “denigrating people based on their cultural and religious identities,” according to Fox News. Carano sued in 2024, seeking punitive damages, alleging wrongful termination and discrimination, and demanded that the studio recast her in the role.

She received financial backing from X owner Elon Musk, who has been public about supporting lawsuits brought by conservatives who believe they have been wrongfully terminated.

In a statement about the settlement, Disney praised Carano as “always well respected” among company insiders and offered to try and hire her for another project “in the near future.”

“The Walt Disney Company and Lucasfilm are pleased to announce that we have reached an agreement with Gina Carano to resolve the issues in her pending lawsuit against the companies. Ms. Carano was always well respected by her directors, co-stars, and staff, and she worked hard to perfect her craft while treating her colleagues with kindness and respect. With this lawsuit concluded, we look forward to identifying opportunities to work together with Ms. Carano in the near future,” Disney said in a statement.

“… and the truth shall set you free,” Carano posted on X on Thursday.
