WATCH: MSNBC Contributor Visibly Outraged By Trump’s Crackdown On DC Crime

One MSNBC contributor was in full meltdown mode on Monday after learning that President Donald Trump plans to federalize much of Washington, D.C. as he deploys thousands of National Guardsmen and FBI agents to the streets in a bid to restore law and order.

Eddie Glaude, a frequent contributor on the liberal network, frowned and furrowed his brow while predicting that dire consequences would come to pass following Trump’s action. The president teased his press conference on Sunday night, posting photos of tent encampments and streets littered with drug paraphernalia that he claims to regularly see from his motorcade.

Trump’s assertion that the “public health emergency” necessitates federal action didn’t sit well with Glaude, who told host Chris Jansing that Trump doesn’t actually care about stopping crime.

“Chris, to be honest with you, I’m trying to hold my temper. I think there’s an ongoing argument that he’s having in his head with Black Lives Matter. There’s an ongoing argument that he’s having with the questions around criminal justice reform and police reform,” Glaude said on “Chris Jansing Reports.”

“It’s interesting that he really doesn’t really care about what’s actually happening in D.C. on a certain level, because he’s not trying to get at the underlying root causes. He’s not looking at examples of how to address rising crime rates that doesn’t require a form of policing that leads to increased incarcera[tion].”

“We have to understand this Chris within the context of Donald Trump’s racial politics and within the context of his effort to get [deceased pedophile Jeffrey] Epstein off the front pages … when we try to treat this as a rational response, then we lose sight of the actual politics that’s being played here,” he added. “And he’s actually trying to give his base red meat to get them off of the Epstein story. And it’s on the backs of citizens in Washington, D.C. He’s going to undermine the democratic process in the district!”

Trump also announced on Monday that U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi will be assuming authority over the Metropolitan Police Department, a decision that D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser replied was “unsettling.”

Although crime in the nation’s capital city is down, high profile incidents like the shooting death of a congressional intern in July have kept a focus on Washington’s seedy streets. Edward Coristine, who worked as “Big Balls” at the U.S. Department of Government Efficiency, sustained an assault during a carjacking earlier this month.

In May, an anti-Israel shooter killed a young, recently engaged couple as they left a celebration at the Israeli embassy.

There have been 99 homicides in the city in 2025, the Daily Caller reports.
