‘Swiftie’ James Comey Says Pop Star Helps Him Cope With Trump’s ‘Meanness’

Former FBI Director James Comey is being relentlessly mocked after he shared a head-scratching video statement in which he referred to himself as a “Swiftie,” a name adopted by super fans of pop star Taylor Swift.

In his latest Substack post, Comey shared that he recently got over a bout with COVID and continues to struggle with President Donald Trump “humiliating America on the world stage. “This, the 64-year-old shared, was made better by Swift’s podcast debut with her boyfriend, NFL star Travis Kelce.

You see, Taylor Swift and I go way back. I went to my first concert of hers 15 years ago. I’ve been to a second and I have helped financially support the attendance of a lot of family members and others. I’m in a family’s Swiftie group chat. I know all her music, and I listen to it in my headphones when I cut the grass,” Comey, 64, said in the video, adding that his favorite tracks are “All Too Well” and “Exile.”

The former FBI director went on to say that Swift’s music has been a staple in his family for years and has helped them get through much “adversity and celebrations.”

For Comey, Swift’s music resonates in a way that helps him stand up to “bullies” and cope with “meanness,” something he admitted he often struggled with. He then praised California Governor Gavin Newsom before stating that his opposition to President Trump makes him feel uneasy.

“But I gotta be honest, it also leaves me with a strange feeling at times because I don’t want us to become like Trump and his followers,” he said. “There are far more decent, honest, kind people in America than there are mean jerks. And don’t get me wrong, we have our jerks, millions of them.”

The former FBI director went on to argue that the left should seek to emulate Taylor Swift and the messages in her music going forward. “But I think we have to try to do that without becoming like them. Which is what makes me think about Taylor Swift. She’s made clear that she sees Donald Trump for what he is,” Comey went on.

“Last year she urged Americans not to make the serious mistake of electing him. Of course, we’re now living with the consequences of that mistake. But while our elderly, makeup-covered president is posting about whether Taylor Swift is still hot and declaring that he can’t stand her, what’s she doing? Living her best life. Producing great music and, as she urged all of us to do during the podcast, not giving the jerks power over her mind.”

Comey especially expressed his admiration for the Swift’s handling of “internet trolls” before fawning over the pop star — whose music is most popular among teenage girls — and her “energy.”

“Think of your energy as if it’s expensive, she said. As if it’s like a luxury item. Not everyone can afford it. I really enjoy reading Arthur Brooks, who writes columns about happiness in the Atlantic,” Comey continued, adding that he wasn’t sure if Brooks was a fellow “Swiftie” or not.

As he wrote, when you become less polite, the alteration in your conduct can make you less happy, more depressed, and angrier about life. I know you get that even without the research. Just watch Fox News or hang around an ex and you’ll see what he means. We can’t stop people from being jerks. What we can do is stop it from hurting us, from changing us.”

The 64-year-old concluded by reflecting on his most recent Taylor Swift concert in Hartford, Connecticut 14 years ago. “She sang a song about this topic, asking, ‘why you gotta be so mean?’ And she spoke directly to the nasty people. ‘I bet you got pushed around, somebody made you cold, but the cycle ends right now, because you can’t lead me down that road.’ You’ll be glad I didn’t sing that. That’s right, because down that road is unhappiness. Nobody should have that power over us,” the director wrapped up before signing off with, “Thank you, Taylor Swift. Keep the faith.”

Comey may seen be forced to deploy his coping mechanisms against “meansess” and “jerks” in federal court, as the Justice Department is currently investigating his conduct relating to the formation of the Russian collusion hoax.

The former director, along with other senior Obama officials, signed off on a bogus intelligence report claiming that Russian interference played a significant role in altering the 2016 election. This was done despite having evidence to the contrary, newly declassified documents revealed.

While the exact details of the investigation into Comey remain clear, reports indicate that it centers on false statements made to congress and “conspiracy.”
