NEW: Trump Opens Up On His Faith During Fox News Interview

President Donald Trump called into “Fox & Friends” on Tuesday morning and spoke on a number of issues and topics, including his faith as it relates to the conflict still raging between Ukraine and Russia. During the interview, Trump cracked a joke, saying that ending the war would increase his chances of getting into heaven, as he’s heard he’s “at the bottom of the totem pole.”

The call into the popular morning show comes a day after the president held a meeting at the White House with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and seven other top European leaders. The meeting focused on how to end the Russia-Ukraine war, which began during the Biden administration back in February 2022.

“I want to end it. You know, we’re not losing American lives, we’re not losing American soldiers. We’re losing Russian and Ukrainian, mostly soldiers. Some people, as missiles hit wrong spots or get lobbed into cities,” Trump went on to say during his interview on Fox News.

“But if I can save 7,000 people a week from being killed, I think that’s a pretty – I want to try and get to heaven if possible. I’m hearing I’m not doing well,” he added. “I hear I’m really at the bottom of the totem pole. But if I can get to heaven, this will be one of the reasons.”

President Trump and officials from Europe talked about possible security assurances for Ukraine that would need to be part of a peace deal reached with Russia as a means of preventing future aggression. For the most part, the president was sparse with details from the discussion on what those protections might look like. He did say that it would largely be the responsibility of Europe to uphold those security efforts.

“There’ll be some form of security,” Trump told the show’s hosts. “It can’t be NATO, because that’s just not something that could ever, ever happen.”

The president also noted that Ukraine would probably have to cede some of its land as part of a final agreement, but clearly stated it would be Zelenskyy’s call to sign off on territorial concessions.

“I hope President Putin is going to be good. If he’s not, that’s going to be a rough situation,” Trump continued. “And I hope Zelensky, President Zelensky, will do what he has to do. He has to show some flexibility also. The thing is a mess.”

As the conversation began to wrap up, President Trump said that he is in the process of arranging a face-to-face meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Zelenskyy for some time in the near future.
