Tim Walz Slapped With New Subpoena

Failed vice presidential candidate Tim Walz, who also serves as the current governor of Minnesota, has been hit with another subpoena from the United States House Committee on Education and the Workforce. The committee is currently chaired by Rep. Virginia Foxx (R-NC), who is leading an investigation into the scandal surrounding Feeding Our Futures (FOF).

Investigators are saying that the Minnesota Department of Education (MDE), which was behind the program during the thick of the coronavirus pandemic, allowed FOF to allegedly misappropriate a staggering $250 million that was supposed to go toward feeding hungry children.

Walz has thus far denied any wrongdoing. He claims the whole fiasco was caused by insufficient due diligence. The latest subpoena demands additional information concerning decisions made by the MDE, along with communications with federal agencies, and data collected from internal investigations.

The subpoena informed the Minnesota governor that he was currently under investigation, laying out the case being made against him. The letter went on to say, “The actions taken by you and other executive officers were insufficient to address the massive fraud.”

Gov. Walz put out a reaction to the allegations, once again denying any wrongdoing in a statement released in June 2024. The governor said, “This wasn’t malfeasance. [Employees] simply didn’t do as much due diligence as they should have.”

A letter penned by Rep. Virginia Foxx, the chair of the U.S. House Committee on Education and the Workforce, dropped a series of hints that the scandal might promote a series of new legislation, saying, “The fraud in the FCNP is within the Committee’s jurisdiction and is a subject on which legislation could be had.”

Guhaad Hashi Said, a known associate of Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN), pleaded guilty to charges of money laundering and misappropriating $2.9 million from the Federal Child Nutrition Program through his nonprofit, Advance Youth Athletic Development, from 2020 to 2022.

U.S. Attorney Joseph H. Thompson went on to explain the scandal and just how massive the scale of fraud in the case actually is. He said, “The conviction of the 52nd defendant in the Feeding our Future case is yet another reminder of the vast reach of this fraud and the scale of the crisis we face in Minnesota.”

The conviction, Thompson explained, is proof that there are more criminals on the loose who have targeted FOF. He then stated, “These crimes are not isolated events. They are part of a web of schemes targeting programs that are intended to lift up Minnesotans and bleeding them dry.”

Commenting on the scale and scope of the fraud, Thompson added, “From where I sit, the scale of the fraud in Minnesota is staggering, and every rock we turn over reveals more, we must be honest and clear-eyed about the scope of this problem, because ending it will take an unyielding, all-hands-on-deck effort from all of us.”

FBI Special Agent in Charge Alvin M. Winston Sr. said that the bureau, along with local law enforcement agencies in Minnesota, was working hard to make sure the fraud comes to an end and that every defendant in the investigation is held accountable for their actions.
