MUST-SEE: ‘Morning Joe’ Turns On Gavin Newsom

In a shocking twist, Joe Scarborough, host of MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” program, ripped into California Gov. Gavin Newsom, referring to him as an “embarrassment” on his show Wednesday morning.

Much of the criticism from Scarborough stems from Newsom’s recent political mistakes, including his handling of various state issues and his latest public appearances, which have alienated his base.

During the program, Scarborough suggested that Newsom needed to spend more time focusing on local issues instead of getting into high-profile fights with President Trump. He called on the example of professional boxer Chuck Wepner, one of the inspirations for the hit film “Rocky,” to illustrate his point.

In the film, a down-on-his-luck boxer takes an offered shot at the world title, designed to essentially make a fool of him in order to get a paycheck he desperately needs. The fight is ultimately unwinnable, but Rocky gives it his all and earns respect.

Scarborough is saying that while going to war with Trump over national issues is a valiant effort, it doesn’t help Democrats gain ground and is thus a useless battle.

Comments made by Scarborough on Wednesday’s episode of his program demonstrate a wider frustration with Newsom’s leadership, especially his response to Texas Democrats fleeing to the Golden State over redistricting, according to The Guardian.

In some of his latest gaffes, Newsom has referred to the city of Sacramento as “dull,” going on to admit he’s only there once a week. This revelation drew severe backlash from his constituents and, as many reports state, has weakened his credibility as a leader.

Newsom’s response to Texas redrawing its congressional districts has been praised by some Democrats, but has, for the most part, been seen as government overreach by others. Hypocrisy has been the charge most credited to Newsom’s account as California is kicking off its own plan to alter electoral maps.

This has turned into what many call the “redistricting arms race,” revealing Democrats are desperate to maintain and gain additional power. Democrats are attempting to cancel out potential seat gains in the House of Representatives by the GOP, which has been looking at redrawing district lines in several places across the country, particularly Texas. The 2020 Census severely undercounted GOP states, leaving the party with an unfair disadvantage in the current Congressional makeup.

Newsom’s image took its first major blast during the coronavirus pandemic, which ultimately led to a recall effort against him. Public feuding with Florida Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis has not, according to reports, done much in the way of rehabilitation for his reputation.
