Cincinnati Police Charge Victim Of Savage Mob Beating, Outrage Explodes

Local law enforcement officials in the city of Cincinnati, Ohio, have officially filed charges against a white man who was the victim of a horrific beating during a mob attack that caught the attention of the whole country a month ago.

The victim, 45, suffered from repeated blows to his head during the brawl on July 26, and is now facing a misdemeanor disorderly conduct charge, according to a report from The Western Journal. Police announced the charge Tuesday evening; however, they were not permitted to release the victim’s name due to Marsy’s Law, which protects the anonymity of crime victims.

Police Lt. Jonathan Cunningham has confirmed the victim must appear in the Hamilton County Municipal Court on Aug. 26. In a video clip of the incident, the man can be seen hitting one of his attackers during the group assault that happened in the downtown area of Cincinnati.

The video shows a man and woman, both victims, being pummeled by punches, kicks, and stomps. According to the report, the victim reached out to local news outlet WXIX after receiving his citation.

“I was hit in the head 28 times and robbed,” he said in comments given to the news station. “Still kinda processing on how this victim-blaming has happened!”

Kip Guinan, a prosecutor for Hamilton County, presented evidence in court last week that he says shows the victim slapped someone; however, it was after the attack had already started. Police union president Ken Kober referred to the charge being brought against the victim as “inappropriate” and “politically motivated.”

“There’s no place for politics in policing,” he said. Kober then pointed out that a police captain, Adam Hennie, is the one who signed the ticket and not any of the officers actually involved in the investigation of the incident.

“The female victim, who only disclosed her first name, appeared on Fox News two weeks ago, where she said the violence was sparked by racial taunting. With bruises on her face, the victim described that she and others she was with were met with comments such as, ‘White people shouldn’t be out here,'” WJ’s article stated.

Local media outlets reported that black city leaders were the ones who demanded the white male victim be charged, making the claim that the whole incident was sparked by his slap. Rev. Damon Lynch proclaimed, “This is racial because it’s unequal justice.”

Police have said the investigation remains open, saying they are currently looking for another suspect.
