Bill Gates Caves To Trump, Rescinds Massive Grant For Democrat Group

Bill Gates has quietly pulled his eight-figure financial support for political groups dedicated to promoting far-left Democrats and causes one day after a private meeting with President Donald Trump.

The Microsoft founder arrived at the White House on Tuesday afternoon to press Trump on the importance of global funding for health efforts such as AIDS and malaria prevention, according to multiple media reports. By Wednesday morning, sources close to Gates said he decided to rescind $77 million in donations managed by Arabella Advisors, a Washington, D.C. consulting group that spreads his largesse among liberal special interest groups.

Executives at the Gates Foundation confirmed that the global power broker would not make any further investments in “Arabella-related entities,” would not pursue any future grants with for-profit consulting firms, and will attempt to “pursue early exits” with several existing political organizations.

A memo distributed on June 24 excuses the change as a desire by the Gates Foundation leadership to engage more directly with grant recipients, cutting out middlemen like Arabella Advisors.

“Teams are increasingly working directly with programmatic partners – organizations that are deeply embedded in the communities we serve and [are] closely aligned with our mission,” the memo states.

“As we look ahead, this is a chance to build deeper, more durable relationships with those partners – and to reinforce the kind of legacy we want to leave behind.”

A spokesman for the foundation told the New York Times that severing ties with the Democrat-aligned group was “a business decision that reflects our regular strategic assessments and partnerships.”

Gates is a fierce defender of the eponymous charity he founded more than three decades ago, and Arabella has become synonymous in D.C. circles with “dark money” groups providing outside support to Democratic incumbents and challengers.

The NYT reported that Gates has become increasingly preoccupied with protecting his foundation as Trump seeks to starve nonprofits he believes are harboring ulterior political motives. The Gates Foundation’s focus on foreign spending has been flagged by the U.S. Department of Government Efficiency, for example.

A Gates official told NBC News that Gates visited with Trump on Wednesday to express “the importance of US global health programs and health research that is necessary to save lives, protect Americans’ health, and preserve US leadership in the world.”

The White House did not confirm the meeting to the outlet.

Earlier this year, the Gates Foundation pledged $2.5 billion by 2030 to address underserved areas of global health for women.

Now, the foundation will be working to unwind $450 million in commitments to Arabella made over the past 16 years. Many of the funds have gone toward far-left causes like transgender accommodations and pay equity, the Daily Mail reported.
