A Super Bowl-winning former member of the New England Patriots was arrested on charges of violence against the mother of his child Thursday night.

Offensive lineman Shaq Mason, who played eight seasons with quarterback Tom Brady, was charged with assault and battery on the mother of his child.

Mason, a 31-year-old free agent, reportedly broke into the woman’s Franklin, Tenn. home shortly after 3 a.m., choking her and threatening to kill her.

Before his attack, Mason allegedly texted a selfie to his former partner and texted her “Im gonna kill you.” Police also noticed a “fresh laceration” on the woman’s lip.

Franklin police later apprehended Mason during a traffic stop, and his bond was set at $150,000. He was booked on one count of aggravated assault, one count of aggravated burglary, one count of harassment, and one count of driving on a suspended license.

A representative for Mason did not reply to Fox News for a request for comment.

Mason was selected by the Pats in the fourth round of the 2015 draft. He played his first seven seasons with the team, winning two Super Bowl rings in the process.

He followed Brady to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, where they repeated their feat with a Super Bowl championship in 2022. He played his last two seasons with the Houston Texans.

In his final season with the Texans, Mason started 15 games but allowed an NFL-high eight sacks. He was released by the team in March.

An account of his salary in the league totaled $45 million across his career, Fox News reported.

Mason played for Georgia Tech after graduating from high school in Tennessee. Franklin, where the woman lives, is situated about 40 miles outside his hometown of Columbia.

The world of college football was already reeling this week by another violent tragedy this week when former USF Coach Jim Leavitt was arrested following a domestic dispute with his girlfriend, according to Florida police.

Leavitt, who headed the University of South Florida football program, was charged Monday night with theft and battery after an alleged fight that took place at an apartment complex in St. Petersburg. The 68-year-old was reportedly fighting with his girlfriend when the argument turned violent.

The Patriots’ dynasty has been marred by several violent individuals, none more so than Aaron Hernandez, the former tight end who was convicted in 2015 for the death of Odin Lloyd. Hernandez later killed himself while in prison.

Antonio Brown, a wide receiver picked up by the Pats in 2019, played just one game before being released amid allegations of sexual assault by a former girlfriend.
