New Photos Show Assassin’s ‘Sniper’s Nest’ Atop University Building
Newly released photos and drone footage has provided a closer look at the “sniper’s nest” from which a yet-to-be identified gunman shot and killed conservative icon Charlie Kirk at Utah Valley University on Wednesday morning.
One image released by law enforcement shows the angle from which the gunman laid down and ultimately fired towards the tent from which Kirk was speaking. The reported shooting position — which came from a flat rooftop overlooking the event venue — was reportedly between 150 and 200 yards away from Kirk’s tent.
A bird’s eye view of the entire area, as well as a photo taken from the shooter’s position, indicates that the assassin had a clear line of sight on Kirk.
Earlier on Thursday morning, investigators recovered what is believed to be the murder weapon from a wooded area located not far from the university. The shooter is believed to have used a high-powered, bolt-action rifle, which would have made a shot, even for an amateur, possible from the reported shooting position.
The scoped .30-06-caliber Mauser bolt-action rifle — which was reportedly scribbled with pro-transgender and pro-Antifa messaging, according to a report from the Wall Street Journal — would have made a shot possible for anyone with minimal experience with firearms when given the reported firing position, a firearms expert told the New York Post.

On Thursday morning, the FBI released its first photos of a person of interest in the Kirk murder just after the manhunt pushed past the 24-hour mark. A suspect is not in custody as of this report, though investigators were able to track the gunman’s movements after he exited the rooftop from which he fired the shot that killed Kirk.
They were also able to obtain shoe prints, a palm print, and forearm impressions from the rooftop. The gunman’s weapon — a bolt-action, high-powered rifle — was also recovered from a wooded area not far from the Utah Valley campus. Depending on the condition of the palm print, the FBI’s crime lab may be able to obtain DNA evidence.
From where the gunman was positioned, investigators believe he may have been able to travel several miles away from the venue in the immediate aftermath of the shooting. Images released by the bureau indicate that the gunman was dressed to blend in with the crowd, as evidenced by his American flag t-shirt.
The FBI is offering a $100,000 reward for any information that leads to the suspect’s capture.
