NEW: Suspected Kirk Assassin Officially Identified As 22-Year-Old
Authorities announced on Friday that they believe the 22-year-old responsible for the murder of Charlie Kirk is now in custody.
Tyler Robinson, a Utah resident, was arrested on Friday after allegedly turning himself in to police at the pleading of his father and pastor, President Donald Trump announced earlier in the morning. Investigators believe it was Robinson who was seen on camera dressed in dark clothes, a baseball cap, and sunglasses, climbing up and down a building where the shot was fired that killed Kirk, 31.
Robinson allegedly confessed to his father, Matt, a 27-year veteran of the Washington County Sheriff’s Department, according to sources who spoke with the Daily Mail. His father then contacted a friend in the U.S. Marshal’s and secured his son before authorities arrived and took him into custody, Trump revealed.
“I think with a high degree of certainty we have him in custody,” Trump told “Fox & Friends.”
“It was a minister who was involved with law enforcement… his good friend is a top U.S. Marshal – and they took it from there,” he explained.

Amber Robinson, the suspect’s mother, works for a company contracting with the state of Utah to provide services for disabled residents, the Daily Mail reported.
The social media profiles of family members show Robinson, a Utah State University student attending on scholarship, smiling in photos alongside two younger brothers. One post by Amber celebrates her “genius” son for getting into college.
Authorities took Robinson into custody around 11 p.m. local time Thursday night in Washington, Utah, at his family home, which sits about 260 miles outside the college campus where he allegedly killed Kirk using a hunting rifle.
At a press conference on Friday, state authorities said Robinson will face the death penalty if convicted.
A photo from 2017 shows Robinson wearing a Donald Trump costume for Halloween. Other images from his childhood indicate he has been around firearms for most of his life, including one showing him posing with an M2 Browning .50 caliber machine gun.
The arrest comes after a manhunt that lasted nearly two full days and included a $100,000 reward. Authorities lost track of the suspect after footage showed him jumping from a roof where the shot was taken and fleeing into a nearby neighborhood.
Additional footage was captured by security cameras on a residential property, showing the suspect fleeing through the yard. Authorities were photographed on Thursday removing the perimeter cameras from the house and taking them as evidence.
