Ilhan Omar Doubles Down On Charlie Kirk Hate, Reposts Shocking Video

Controversial Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) has once again thrust herself into the spotlight with a striking example of political polarization by sharing a video on social media that features a nasty critique of slain conservative pundit Charlie Kirk, who was assassinated on Sept. 10 at an event at Utah Valley University.

The video she shared, which doubles down on her previous negative opinions about Kirk, refers to the Turning Point USA founder as a “reprehensible human being” and a “stochastic terrorist.” It then goes on to suggest that Kirk’s death was the result of his so-called “divisive rhetoric.”

Omar’s decision to double down on this particular narrative, despite the sensitive nature of Kirk’s death and the division in America, highlights the ever-widening divide between Americans. Experts also state that it raises serious questions concerning the proper boundaries of discourse in politics.

Kirk is most well-known for being the founder of Turning Point USA, an organization with a mission to share conservative values with young people, particularly those attending university. His passing has been mourned by many journalists, pundits, and politicians within the conservative movement, including President Donald Trump.

However, others, such as Omar, have taken his assassination as an opportunity to criticize him and his political and religious beliefs. The video Omar shared was originally posted by a user known as @iwrkshop.

Many of the Minnesota congresswoman’s critics say the video goes far beyond normal criticism as it paints Kirk as a victim of his own demise due to what the left sees as the promotion of “hatred.” Critics also argue that her endorsement of the clip reveals a troubling tendency to exploit tragedy for political gain.

Kirk, who many conservatives considered to be a moderate, was said to have extreme views by the Southern Poverty Law Center.

Omar has become well known for getting into skirmishes with other politicians and lawmakers, especially those who are Republican or hold conservative values. Accusations have been leveled at her that the comments she has made in the days following Kirk’s assassination are proof that she is making the political climate in the United States even worse, displaying an utter disregard for the consequences of words and ideas.

As the country mourns the loss of Kirk and the damage done to political discourse and unity following the incident, suggestions are being made that the focus should be placed on healing and understanding rather than criticizing someone’s opinions.
