Country music fans witnessed an emotional moment this week when singer Gavin Adcock led a thunderous “Charlie Kirk! Charlie Kirk!” chant at his sold-out show, just days after he was gunned down at a Utah campus event.

The Georgia-born country artist stopped mid-set, raised his microphone, and urged the crowd to honor the late Turning Point USA co-founder. Within seconds, thousands of voices roared Kirk’s name, filling the arena with chants that rolled like thunder.

Adcock later posted on Instagram about why he felt compelled to act. “I didn’t get the privilege of meeting Charlie Kirk, but anybody that loves Jesus is a friend of mine,” he wrote. “His outspoken beliefs were not silenced 2 days ago. His voice is now stronger than ever and will make an impact for centuries. There is not a thing in the world you can say to make this better, but my thoughts and prayers go out to every single person that is hurting from this horrible tragedy.”

The singer closed his message with a reminder to “Always stand up for what you believe. The truth is rare nowadays.” He added a passage from Psalms 97:10: “You who love the LORD, hate evil! He protects the lives of his godly people and rescues them from the power of the wicked.”

The performance came amid an outpouring of grief across the country. Several artists tied to Nashville, including Jason Aldean, Kane Brown, Lauren Alaina, Parker McCollum, and gospel legend CeCe Winans, shared public messages in the aftermath of Kirk’s assassination. Many offered prayers for his wife Erica and their two young children. Others spoke of the dangerous climate of political division that has gripped the nation.

Kirk, just 31 years old, was killed on Wednesday, September 10, while speaking at Utah Valley University in Orem. The event was part of his “American Comeback Tour” and drew more than 3,000 attendees. Known for his “Prove Me Wrong” debates, Kirk was answering a student’s question on mass shootings when a bullet struck him in the neck.

He was rushed to Timpanogos Regional Hospital but was later pronounced dead. Authorities said the shot was fired from a rooftop overlooking the tent where Kirk sat.

Kirk’s influence on young conservatives was unmatched. As co-founder of Turning Point USA, he built the largest grassroots conservative student network in the country, with more than 850 active campus chapters. Known for defending Christian values, gun rights, and limited government, he was a staunch ally of President Donald Trump, who has announced that Kirk will be awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom posthumously.
