BREAKING: Two Men Arrested For Allegedly Placing ‘Incendiary Device’ Not Far From Kirk Assassination Site

Two men allegedly placed an explosive device underneath a media vehicle in Utah on Friday and tried to ignite it, sparking an immediate federal investigation.

Adeeb Nasir, 58, and Adil Justice Ahme Nasir, 31, were each arrested on Sunday when authorities raided their home in Magna, Utah, located less than an hour away from the Utah Valley University campus where Kirk was assassinated last Wednesday. The pair is accused of planting an incendiary device underneath a Fox 13 Salt Lake City vehicle that was parked underneath an occupied building, according to a report from the New York Post.

The device was lit, but failed to ignite, police said.

The FBI immediately took control of the investigation as soon as the device was determined to be a genuine threat, especially given its position under a vehicle in a public setting. In less than two days, federal investigators managed to trace the device back to the Nasirs.

After obtaining a search warrant, agents combed through the home and recovered mock explosive devices, illicit drugs, components to make additional devices and two firearms, which the Nasirs were not legally allowed to own as restricted persons with known narcotics use, according to arrest documents.

When pressed about the devices that were recovered, the two men asserted that they were real, prompting a rapid evacuation of the surrounding neighborhood and all law enforcement authorities on site while they worked to properly dispose of the devices. Authorities ultimately determined that the devices recovered from the home were fake, however.

“While being questioned about the devices, both suspects stated that the devices were real,” police documents stated. “This caused all law enforcement personnel executing the warrant to evacuate the residence and initiate disposal procedures.”

Adeeb Nasir, who is originally of Pakistani origin, is facing a litany of charges, including two counts of constructing weapons of mass destruction and two counts of threat of terrorism. He was booked into Salt Lake County Jail and ordered to be held without bail, according to arrest documents. Charges against Adil have not yet been filed.

The exact relationship between the two men is currently unclear, though they were both living in the same home.

“FOX 13 News is working closely with law-enforcement and our risk management team, with the safety of our employees as our top priority,” said FOX 13 Station Manager Leona Wood.

This is a developing story.
