WATCH: ‘Squad’ Democrat Candidate Shoved To Ground By ICE Agent For Blocking Vehicle

A side character in the “Squad” was thrown to the ground by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers this week after they accused her of trying to impede the lawful arrest of suspected illegal immigrants.

Kat Abughazaleh, a former journalist who is running in the Democratic primary for Illinois’ 9th district, posted a video of her encounter with ICE agents in an ostensible attempt to make herself appear like the victim. However, many users quickly pointed out that she should have expected a physical confrontation if she put herself between ICE agents and their jobs.

The incident occurred outside an ICE processing center in Broadview, according to the Western Journal.

Video of the brief tussle shows Abughazaleh in blue jeans and a black long-sleeved shirt as she positions herself in front of an ICE vehicle about to depart the center. Protestors and reporters filled the surrounding scene to the point that another ICE agent deployed tear gas to try and disperse the crowd.

“This is what it looks like when ICE violates our First Amendment rights,” the aspirational Squad member wrote on X.

Commenters were less sympathetic to her plight.

“Kat Abughazaleh admittedly obstructed ICE agents,” a top critic wrote, tagging U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi. “Make a legal example out of this criminal.”

Another cited 18 U.S.C. § 111, which “criminalizes the acts of forcibly assaulting, resisting, opposing, impeding, intimidating, or interfering with any federal officer or employee while they are engaged in the performance of their official duties.” The felony offense carries a potential sentence of up to 8 years in prison.

A third asked, “Why would she not be arrested? We have to give these people consequences or they will continue to behave this way.”

The stunt will get Abughazaleh much-needed attention, which is a prized commodity in her 10-way Democratic primary. The former Media Matters left-wing reporter carries the most cash on hand, according to campaign finance reports, which show her with roughly $666,000.

The safe Democratic seat is currently held by longtime Rep. Janice Schakowsky (D-IL), who announced in May that she would not seek reelection.

Abughazaleh’s is just the latest in a string of stunts outside ICE facilities. Earlier this year, authorities charged fellow “Squad” member LaMonica McIver (D-NJ) with assaulting a federal officer at a New Jersey immigration detention center.

McIver’s arrest came after Ras Baraka, the Democratic mayor of Newark, was cuffed at the scene over similar charges.

McIver has pleaded not guilty, and her trial is slated to begin in November. Baraka’s charges were dismissed days after he was taken into custody.
