Joy Behar Shocks ‘The View’ Audience, Agrees With Trump On Comey

ABC daytime viewers were undoubtedly shocked on Thursday when “The View” co-host Joy Behar stated that she agrees with President Donald Trump that former FBI Director James Comey may have broken the law.

Since Sunday, Trump has made plain that he wishes for the U.S. Justice Department to prosecute the Obama-era director on charges related to the baseless Russiagate allegations. On Wednesday, officials close to the administration announced that authorities were preparing charges that may be announced by the end of this week.

Comey’s wrongdoing resurfaced during a 2020 congressional hearing where he allegedly perjured himself while discussing the FBI’s investigation of Lindsey Halligan, a White House aide and Trump’s former personal attorney.

Behar agreed that Trump has a point but couched her defense with caution, adding that she also distrusts Comey for opening an investigation into Hillary Clinton’s missing emails 11 days before the 2016 election.

“You know what, I don’t like Comey. I agree with Trump on this one. I don’t like what he did to Hillary,” Behar said. “I’m just saying. But I rarely have something that I agree with Trump on, so this is one thing.”

Comey’s damning remark came while responding to U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX), who asked at the 2020 hearing whether he leaked information regarding the Trump or Clinton campaigns. Comey replied, “No.”

Cruz later revealed that former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe admitted he had received permission from Comey to leak sensitive information to the Wall Street Journal related to the Bureau’s investigation into alleged Russian involvement in the 2016 election.

Prosecutors are now said to be “nearing a decision” about whether enough evidence exists to charge Comey. Halligan has urged prosecutors to do so, the Daily Caller reported.

Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard this summer turned Comey over to the DOJ for criminal prosecution, citing documents obtained during a review of the U.S. intelligence community’s activities in the wake of the 2020 election. He was among a slew of former Obama officials recommended for criminal investigation, including former CIA Director John Brennan and former DNI James Clapper.

Behar’s head-turning comment comes after ABC allowed “The View” to return following a hiatus earlier this year, one that critics gleefully speculated might never end due to a string of self-inflicted errors.

Both Behar and co-host Sunny Hostin were forced to read on-air apologies after issuing scathing criticisms of former GOP Congressman Matt Gaetz and members of Trump’s administration. Not long after the 2024 election, ABC executives instructed the show’s producers to bring more conservative voices into the conversation, like Alyssa Farah Griffin, who was made a permanent co-host in 2022.
