WATCH: C-SPAN Host Brings Receipts, Smacks Down Liberal Caller’s Comey Cries
A C-SPAN host brought the receipts against a liberal caller who rose to the defense of former FBI Director James Comey, leaving the grown man sputtering with excuses about Friday’s indictment.
Anchor Greta Brawner, who invites viewers to call into her morning show, listened patiently as the male caller insisted Comey “did nothing wrong” while serving atop the FBI, including during his investigation into President Donald Trump. Comey was charged with two counts of making a false statement to Congress and obstructing a congressional proceeding, both of which carry a maximum penalty of five years in prison.
“His record speaks for itself,” said the self-identified Democrat. “He’s a very honorable man. He served his country. He did everything by the book.”
Almost instantly, Brawner had her tablet at the ready with a 2019 Associated Press story alleging Comey “violated FBI policies in his handling of memos documenting private conversations with President Trump.”
A months-long investigation by the Inspector General concluded Comey broke Bureau protocols by “giving the contents of one memo to a friend with instructions to share the information with a reporter.”
Brawner read more from the story: “‘Comey also failed to return his memos to the FBI after he was dismissed in May of 2017, retaining copies of some of them in his personal safe at home, and sharing them with his personal lawyer without permission from the FBI.”
The Inspector General’s report was the second in as many years to criticize Comey’s handling of the FBI.
Turning to her caller with the inflection of a patient teacher, Brawner asked for his reaction. What she got was a word salad about Mar-a-Lago, cryptocurrency, and what some may call a classic case of Trump Derangement Syndrome.
“That’s the cost of doing business, okay!” he shot back before pointing to the alleged classified documents found at Mar-a-Lago in 2022 and the Trump family launching its own alternative to Bitcoin earlier this year.
“What about that? Did that ever get followed up on? What about all of the things he’s done making his own Bitcoin? Going after his political enemies? What about selling cars for Elon Musk on the White House lawn? If any other president had did that, especially Obama, what would we be hearing from the Republicans?”

Comey’s indictment marks an escalation in the president’s effort to punish many of the former public officials who investigated him at the height of his first administration. Following the 2016 election, the former FBI director was tasked with helping produce a report from the U.S. intelligence community exploring whether Russian actors conspired with the Trump campaign to win the election.
