Major Teachers Union Mourns Death Of Communist Cop Killer
The Chicago Teacher’s Union is facing intense backlash over a social media post in which they mourned the passing of Assata Shakur, a far-left terrorist who fled to Cuba after murdering a New Jersey state trooper in the 1970’s.
Shakur was convicted of being an accomplice in the 1973 execution-style slaying of New Jersey state trooper Werner Foerster, who left behind a 3-year-old son at the time of his murder. Shakur, born JoAnne Chesimard, later escaped prison and fled to Cuba, where she was granted asylum by then-Cuban Prime Minister Fidel Castro.
Shakur was a member of the Black Liberation Army, which the FBI describes as “one of the most violent militant organizations of the 1970s.” She was the first woman two ever top the FBI’s list of most wanted terrorists, while the bureau was offering a reward of up to $1 million for information leading to her capture until she passed away on Thursday.
The now deceased terrorist has long been hailed as a hero by far-left and black supremacist organizations, which evidently describes the Chicago Teachers Union.
“Rest in Power, Rest in Peace, Assata Shakur,” the group posted on X alongside a memorial photo of Shakur.
“Today we honor the life and legacy of a revolutionary fighter, a fierce writer, a revered elder of Black liberation, and a leader of freedom whose spirit continues to live in our struggle,” the post continued. ‘Assata refused to be silenced. She taught us that “It is our duty to fight for our freedom. It is our duty to win. We must love each other and support each other. We have nothing to lose but our chains.'”

The National Police Association reacted to the jaw-dropping post by honoring Foerster. “The Chicago Teachers Union honors Joanne Chesimard (Assata Shakur) without mentioning she was convicted of the murder of New Jersey State Police Trooper Werner Foerster in 1973,” the group wrote. “He was 34 years old and left behind a wife and 3-year-old son. Rest in Peace Trooper Foerster.”
The union’s post has been met with intense backlash by numerous political leaders.
“Feel bad for school kids trapped in a failing system and that are forced to listen to this leftist drivel,” said Florida Governor Ron DeSantis. “An advertisement for school choice.”
“The teachers union praising a cop killer as a whole generation of black kids fail to meet the standards of reading and math in their failing schools,” said conservative political commentator Ryan Girdusky. “Truly disgusting behavior by these ghouls.”
The Chicago Teachers Union has some 20,000 teacher and clinician members, according to the group’s website. It is an affiliate of the American Federation of Teachers.
