WATCH: Maxine Waters Melts Down After Admitting Dems Want Free Healthcare For Illegal Aliens

U.S. Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA) snapped at a Lindell TV reporter on Capitol Hill Tuesday after she casually admitted that Democrats will shut down the government if they cannot secure taxpayer-funded healthcare for illegal aliens.

Lawmakers have been unable to reach a deal to avoid a government shutdown as the midnight deadline fast approaches. House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) and his Senate counterpart Chuck Schumer (D-NY) have repeatedly called on the administration to “compromise” by including healthcare guarantees for “all Americans” in a continuing resolution.

Republicans, and the White House, have rejected Democrat proposals due to demands for taxpayer-funded healthcare for illegal aliens. “If you look at the original they did with this negotiation, it was a $1.5 trillion spending package, basically saying the American people want to give massive amounts of money, hundreds of billions of dollars to illegal aliens for their health care, while Americans are struggling to pay their health care bills,” Vice President JD Vance said following a meeting between legislative leaders at the White House on Monday.

“That was their initial foray into this negotiation. We thought it was absurd,” he added.

Congress has until midnight on October 1 to pass either a short-term funding extension, or continuing resolution (CR), to avert a partial government shutdown. The House already passed a funding extension, though the bill was blocked in the Senate earlier this month.

While speaking with Lindell TV reporter Alison Steinberg on Capitol Hill Tuesday, Rep. Waters appeared to admit that Democrats are holding the line on taxpayer-funded healthcare guarantees for illegal aliens.

“Do Democrats want to prioritize the health care of illegal aliens over a government shutdown?” Steinberg asked. Waters refused to answer the question, stating that healthcare is at the top of her party’s priority list in shutdown negotiations.

“But are Democrats demanding health care for illegal aliens?” Steinberg followed up. “Democrats are demanding health care for everybody. We want to save lives. We want to make sure that health care is available to those who would die but having the help of their government,” the congresswoman responded.

Steinberg continued to press the issue, asking whether Waters would be “good with” a shutdown “even if it means giving healthcare to people who aren’t Americans?”

Waters once again refused to deny that taxpayer-funded healthcare for illegal aliens is a Democrat demand in shutdown negotiations. “What you’re trying to do is you’re standing here and you’re trying to make me say that somehow we’re going to put non -citizens over Americans. Quit it. Stop it. This is the kind of journalism we don’t need. You’re divisive,” the congresswoman snapped.

Congressional Republicans and the White House want Democrats to move forward with  their “clean,” short-term funding extension until November 21, while Democrats are demanding a permanent extension of expiring Obamacare tax credits and other demands that the GOP has said are off the table.

While speaking with reporters on Tuesday morning, President Donald Trump warned that thousands of federal workers would be permanently fired if Democrats move forward with their plan to shut down the government. According to betting odds site Polymarket, there is currently an 88 percent chance of a government shutdown by the midnight deadline.
