NEW: Alec Baldwin Involved In Nasty Car Crash After Plowing Into A Tree
Emmy-award winning actor Alec Baldwin was involved in nasty car accident on Monday evening when he plowed his vehicle into a tree while staying in The Hamptons.
Baldwin, 67, was visibly irritated and disheveled as he made a call and stood with his hands in his pockets near the crash site, photos shared with the New York Post show. The actor’s vehicle, a white Range Rover, was smashed in the front after plowing head-on into a tree on the side of Montauk Highway in the East Hamptons, where Baldwin owns a swanky vacation home.
Baldwin’s brother, fellow actor Stephen, was with him at the time of the crash. Police quickly arrived at the scene and helped the acting siblings get to shelter, as it was pouring rain at the time.
The “Hunt For Red October” actor was in the area for the Hamptons International Film Festival, which ran from October 3 through October 15. He currently serves as the co-chair of the Board Executive Committee.
“He has been out there all week, he attended films and moderated panels,” a source familiar with the incident told the New York Post.

Baldwin addressed the wreck in an Instagram video, explaining that the Range Rover actually belonged to his wife, Hillaria. Wearing the same clothes as he was at the scene, Baldwin blamed the crash on a “garbage truck the size of a whale,” claiming that it had cut him off.
“To avoid hitting him, I hit a tree, I hit a big, fat tree and crushed my car – my wife’s car. I crushed my wife’s car. I feel bad about that. But it’s all fine, I’m fine, and my brother’s fine,” he said.
The actor went on to thank responding officers, singling out an “Officer Gerken” with the East Hampton Police Department for his assistance. “As nice as can be, as pleasant as can be about the whole thing,” Baldwin said.
He concluded the long-winded video statement with a final round of congratulations for all who participated in the film festival, as well as his wife, who was recently voted off “Dancing With The Stars.”
“Hilaria, I love you more than anything. I’m very proud of you,” he said in a puzzling conclusion to the video.
Baldwin first purchased the ritzy East Hampton home in 1995 and has since completed two sweeping renovations. He recently tried, unsuccessfully, to place the property on the market, going so far as to knock off $10 million from the original asking price in January 2024.
The property, which sprawls 10 acres and sits on a nearby beach, was listed not long after the Hollywood star was hit with criminal charges in connection with an incident in which he accidentally shot and killed a cinematographer on the set of the western film “Rust.” Baldwin pointed a prop gun at the cinematographer, Halyna Hutchins, when he claims it accidentally went off.
The weapon was loaded with live rounds when it was supposed to be loaded with blanks. Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, the armorer on the set of the film, was convicted of involuntary manslaughter and sentenced to 18 months in prison for her role in the 2021 incident.
Baldwin was also charged with involuntary manslaughter in 2023, and later re-indicted by a grand jury in January of the following year. The case was ultimately dismissed in July 2024.
