NEW: Treasury Department Closes In On Antifa Fundraising Networks

The Trump Administrating is ramping up its efforts to identify and take action against organizations and left-wing financiers behind the funding and organization of groups like Antifa and other related far-left extremist organizations.

Last week, President Donald Trump hosted a roundtable discussion attended by multiple cabinet members, on-the-ground journalists who have covered Antifa violence and related experts in order to hear testimonials and formulate a comprehensive plan of action. Among those in attendance was Seamus Bruner, research director at the Government Accountability Institute (GAI), who stated that the administration’s “whole of government” approach is well underway.

“President Trump is taking it very seriously,” Bruner said, noting that the president directed Attorney General Pam Bondi and FBI Director Kash Patel to place particular emphasis on “unmasking” Antifa by revealing financiers.

“It’s not just Antifa, but there is a whole ecosystem of radical, professional protesting organizations,” Bruner said, noting that there are vast networks of left-wing organizations that organize and raise funds for violent protests, in addition to providing legal services to violent rioters should they face arrest.

Such organizations also provide left-wing extremists with PR services, marketing, and in some cases additional boots on the ground as part of what Bruner refers to as “Riot Inc.”

Bruner also pointed to bail fund networks that work to help repeat offenders return to protests after facing arrest. He pointed to ongoing GAI  investigations that have uncovered coordination across cities such as Portland, Seattle and Chicago involving paid and bussed in protesters, including the exploitation of homeless people to participate in unrest.

In terms of notable financiers, Bruner cited billionaire George Soros and his Open Society network, the Tides Foundation, and foreign donors such as Swiss billionaire Hansjörg Wyss as some of the biggest names behind “Riot Inc.”

In order to curb funding for domestic unrest, he said federal authorities could use RICO statutes to target networks and urged the IRS and Office of Management and Budget to review and revoke tax-exempt status for supposed charitable organizations found to be engaging in the aforementioned conduct.

If those agencies find that such groups are funding criminal activity, Bruner went on, they could be forced to open up their books in order to justify grants.

“They can absolutely cancel any future grants if they deem that the charitable purposes are less than charitable,” he said, pointing out that more than $100 million in taxpayer-funded grants have flowed to organizations engaging in unrest activities.

During an appearance on the “Charlie Kirk Show,” which is currently being hosted by Turning Point USA’s Andrew Kolvet and additional TPUSA staffers, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent provided an update on the Treasury Department’s efforts to identify and take action against organizations funding Antifa and violent protest activity.

I will tell you that after 9-11, Treasury became the driving force behind tracking down the networks of terrorist organizations, how they were financed, how could this have happened on U .S. soil with these international terrorist organizations. Where did the money come from? Who are the ultimate funders?” Bessent said.

And that was on the international side. Andrew, I will tell you that Charlie’s death is like a domestic 9-11. That we are going to find, it has alerted us to what Charlie knew, that these organizations are working within our borders. And we believe people have a right to free speech, they have a right to organize, they have a right to protest, but they have to do it peacefully. They cannot be violent.”

Bessent went on to reiterate much of Bruner’s points, noting that nonprofits have played a major role in fundraising and providing services to left-wing extremist groups involved in domestic unrest. “We have started to compile lists, put together networks, and there’s a long record here. And we don’t know how much of the support is coming in from overseas. We don’t know how much is being supported by U.S. nonprofits. C3s that give money to C4s, but this is mission critical for us now,” the secretary said.

Just as after 9 -11 and Osama bin Laden, the ultimate culprit, was captured, we are operationalizing this here at Treasury and we are going to track down who is responsible for this.”
