Drug Cartels Are Offering $50,000 Bounties On Federal Agents, DHS Announces
Mexican drug cartels have seen their profits decimated as the Trump administration ramps up its drone strikes on traffickers and pressures the country’s government to root out corruption and supply chains. Now, the drug lords are striking back, offering contract killers five-figure paydays to kill federal agents.
An epicenter of the conflict is Chicago which, although far from the southern border, has become a battleground between U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and U.S. Customs and Border Protection, and the cartels supplying the windy city with drugs and illegal immigrants.
In a new bulletin, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security revealed that local gangs have been encouraged to kill the local heads of ICE or CBP. If they do, the shooter could net as much as $50,000 from the cartels who steer their activity.
Bonuses start at $2,000 for “gathering intelligence or doxxing agents” or their families, DHS announced on Tuesday.
“This surveillance has enabled ambushes and disruptions during routine enforcement actions, including recent raids under Operation Midway Blitz,” said DHS, explaining that non-lethal assaults on federal agents could lead to paydays between $5,000 and $10,000 for gang members.
“These criminal networks are not just resisting the rule of law, they are waging an organized campaign of terror against the brave men and women who protect our borders and communities,” Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem said in a statement.
“Our agents are facing ambushes, drone surveillance, and death threats, all because they dare to enforce the laws passed by Congress. We will not back down from these threats, and every criminal, terrorist, and illegal alien will face American justice.”
“We have assaults on ICE agents, Border Patrol officers, and our allied law enforcement agencies every day, often multiple times a day” in Chicago, CBP Commander Greg Bovino told Fox News. “And the lethality of these assaults is increasing.”
Trisha McLaughlin, a top deputy to Noem, said DHS has been “hardening” their urban facilities since the attack on a CBP center in Dallas in July.
“We are seeing a coordinated, highly organized war on our law enforcement on the streets of Chicago. These men and women are simply enforcing the rule of law and doing their job, and these foreign terrorist networks are going after them,” she told the outlet. “They’re using a tiered system of bounties to go after them, whether it be doxxing their families, kidnapping, even murdering these brave men and women.”

Adding to the killing frenzy is a sub-lethal supply of support from Antifa activists in Chicago and Portland who “have provided logistical support such as pre-staged protest supplies, doxxing of agent identities, and on-the-ground interference to shield cartel-linked individuals from deportation,” DHS stated, per the NY Post.
The agency urged members of the public to report suspicious activity, especially on rooftops, and said its agents “will not be deterred by these threats.”
