WATCH: Angel Studios Releases Trailer For Blockbuster George Washington Film
Angel Studios, the independent, Christian studio known for hits like “Sound of Freedom,” released a trailer for their most ambitious film to date, which is set to hit theaters for America’s 250th anniversary celebration on July 4.
The studio has released an action-packed trailer for “Young Washington,” which will follow the role America’s first president played in the outbreak of the French and Indian War.
George Washington played a pivotal role in the early stages of the French and Indian War (1754–1763) as a young officer in the Virginia militia. Washington led a small force that ambushed a French detachment at the Battle of Jumonville Glen, killing the French commander and igniting the war. He then hastily built Fort Necessity, located near present day Pittsburgh, but was ultimately overwhelmed by French troops and their Native American allies.
“Young Washington” will portray this time period, which gave Washington crucial military and leadership experience that later proved pivotal in the American Revolution. He went on to serve throughout the conflict and distinguished himself as an aide de camp to General Edward Braddock, who was killed at the Battle of the Monongahela.
The trailer features William Franklyn-Mille, who is starring in the titular role, fighting through a number of intense battle scenes and military meetings with commanders and adversaries doubting his capabilities. It is headlined by a star-studded cast, including Academy Award-winning actor Ben Kingsley, Golden Globe-winner Mary-Louise Parker, Kelsey Grammer, Andy Serkis and more.
Jon Erwin, who created Wonder Project’s biblical series “House of David,” directs the film, from a script he co-wrote with Tom Provost and Diederik Hoogstraten.
“With this first trailer, audiences are getting their first real look at the scale, emotion and power of ‘Young Washington,” Brandon Purdie, Angel’s head of theatrical distribution and brand development, said in a statement. “It captures the tension, courage and humanity of a leader whose formative story has rarely been told on screen. We’re honored to bring this epic to theaters for America’s 250th anniversary and thrilled to see audiences already engaging and securing their seats to experience ‘Young Washington’ on the biggest screens possible.”
The trailer ends with a narrated message asking viewers to help make “Young Washington” the number one movie in America during next year’s Independence Day celebrations, directing them to the studio’s website for preorder tickets . It is set to hit theaters on July 3, 2026, a day before the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.
Founded in 2013, the independent studio is widely known for faith-based hits like “The King Of Kings” and “The Chosen,” a series focused on the life of Jesus Christ. The latter project drew massive worldwide viewership and helped to establish the company’s streaming platform, Angel.com.
To date, Angel Studios is best known for “Sound Of Freedom,” a riveting film that details the real life experiences of a federal agent combatting the child-trafficking crisis. The film became one of the most successful of 2023, pulling in more than $184 million domestically.
