Trump Administration Cracks Down On Illegal Aliens Receiving Taxpayer Benefits

The Trump administration is cracking down on public housing — ordering a coast-to-coast audit to kick out illegal immigrants living in taxpayer-funded homes, Housing and Urban Development Secretary Scott Turner announced.

Turner said every public housing authority has 30 days to conduct an audit proving residents are either U.S. citizens or hold “eligible immigration status.”

“No longer will illegal aliens be able to leave citizenship boxes blank or take advantage of HUD-funded housing, riding the coattails of hardworking American citizens,” Turner wrote. He added that lax enforcement has left millions of Americans behind, saying, “Currently, HUD only serves one out of four eligible families due, in part, to the lack of enforcement of prohibition against federally funded assistance to illegal aliens.”

Any local agency that fails to comply could face a federal funding “examination,” Turner warned.

Appearing on Fox News’ Jesse Watters Primetime with Charles Hurt, Turner revealed that the D.C. Housing Authority is the first to be put on notice — and more than 3,000 others are next. The mission, he said, is simple: “American citizens will be prioritized.”

Republicans cheered the move. “Anyone in this country illegally should be deported, not given publicly funded housing!” Sen. Bernie Moreno (R-Ohio) posted on X.

But critics argued that the policy will waste resources. “This is already the law — proof of citizenship is a requirement for any public housing or section 8 unit,” former HUD official Cat Vielma wrote. “Requiring a second, immediate accounting will not provide a massive correction or eviction. It will simply divert staff from serving American seniors, vets etc.”

The housing review comes after Turner and Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem signed a March memorandum to root out illegal immigrants benefitting from public programs — a sharp reversal from Biden-era leniency.

Noem didn’t mince words in defending the initiative. “The entire government will work together to identify abuse and exploitation of public benefits and make sure those in this country illegally are not receiving federal benefits or other financial incentives to stay illegally,” she said. “If you are an illegal immigrant, you should leave now. The gravy train is over.”

The effort is part of a broader Trump administration push to restore order in Democrat-run cities. Washington, D.C., Portland, Oregon, and Los Angeles, California, have all seen a surge of National Guard troops and federal law enforcement to battle rising crime.
