JUST IN: Top Senators Urge Military To Defy Trump Administration
A number of elected Democrats, including Senators Elissa Slotkin (D-MI) and Mark Kelly (D-AZ), released a brazen video statement in which they urged members of the U.S. Military to resist the Trump Administration.
The video featured statements from Reps. Jason Crow (D-CO), Chissy Houlahan (D-PA), Chris Deluzio (D-PA) and Maggie Goodlander (D-NH), as well as the aforementioned senators, all of whom have backgrounds in the military and intelligence communities.
“We know you are under enormous stress and pressure right now, Americans trust their military, but that trust is at risk. This administration is pitting our uniformed military and intelligence community professionals against American citizens like us. You all swore an oath to protect and defend this constitution,” the lawmakers said in the video.
“Right now, the threats to our Constitution aren’t just coming from abroad, but from right here at home. Our laws are clear,” they added. “You can refuse illegal orders…you must refuse illegal orders. No one has to carry out orders that violate the law or our constitution.”
Several pro-Trump commentators and elected lawmakers noted that the lawmakers appeared to be urging service members to actively defy and resist the Trump Administration. “Democrats in Congress are openly advocating mutiny by the U.S. Armed Forces,” said veteran attorney Phil Holloway. “They care nothing about the general welfare of the nation. It’s all about ‘get Trump’ with these imbeciles.”
“Nothing to see here… just Democrats openly calling for a military coup,” added Libs of TikTok’s Chaya Raichik.
White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller agreed with that framing. “Democrat lawmakers are now openly calling for insurrection,” he wrote in an X post of his own.
Slotkin has repeatedly claimed that the Trump Administration’s use of military personnel to assist with border security and deportation operations is unconstitutional.
“I think we’ve had multiple administrations who have sent uniformed troops, active-duty troops, to the southern border in support roles, right? According to our Constitution, you can go in supporting roles, logistics, driving, setting up facilities, setting up, you know, border locations, whatever. It’s very different when you cross the line into law enforcement,” she said.
“Our military are not trained as law enforcement officers. They’ll be the first one to tell you that. That’s not why they got into service. And it’s also in violation of our Constitution. So, I think it’s very important that we keep that line.”
