WATCH: Trump Shares Positive Medical Update On Critically-Injured National Guardsman
President Donald Trump announced during a rally in Pennsylvania on Tuesday that Andrew Wolfe, the West Virginia National Guardsman who was shot in the head during an unprovoked attack in Washington D.C. last month, was able make incredible recovery process after being given a slim chance of survival in the immediate aftermath of the shooting.
Wolfe, a 24-year-old member of the West Virginia Air National Guard, was shot in the head during an “ambush-style” attack near the White House in Washington, D.C., while on duty patrolling as part of a deployment to support local law enforcement efforts. Both he and Sarah Beckstrom, 20, had volunteered to work over the Thanksgiving holiday at the time of the attack.
Beckstrom tragically succumbed to her wounds a little under 24 hours after the attack.
Wolfe was listed in critical condition immediately following the shooting and surgery on November 26, 2025, with the first 24-48 hours post-operation described as particularly crucial due to brain swelling. By December 1 (approximately five days later), his status had improved to “serious” but stable, with early positive responses like the thumbs-up gesture reported.
A terrorist who Biden let into our nation shot two of our soldiers in DC last week, killing Sarah Beckstrom, age 20 & critically wounding Andrew Wolfe, age 24.
The same democrats & media who supported Biden are now screaming about drug boats.

While speaking with supporters for an economic rally on Tuesday, President Trump described Beckstrom as an “incredible person” who is “looking at us from heaven, from above,” before providing an update on Wolfe’s Wolfe’s remarkable recovery.
“And Andrew, It’s the second one who’s also from West Virginia National Guard. Incredible people. And so they were both from West Virginia. And his mother’s name, Monica. And Monica is the most positive person I’ve ever seen. The night that he was so badly hit and the doctors gave him almost no chance. I called their hospital room and spoke to her. And she said, ‘Sir, he’ll be fine. Oh, no, I’m telling you, he’s going to. I’m praying. The whole country is praying. Sir, I’m telling you, don’t worry about it,'” Trump shared.
The president went on to reveal that Wolfe was able to get up out of bed on his own earlier today. “Do you believe that? He got up,” Trump told supporters.
“Now, he didn’t speak. He’s not ready for that yet. I mean, you got hit in the head, but he got up and boy, they’re so happy. It’s amazing. And the care that they’ve given him to hospital and the generals that have been there, the military that’s been there. It’s amazing.”
Wolfe’s family shared in a December 8 video statement alongside General Jim Seward that Wolfe’s recovery can only be described as “a miracle.”
“All the prayers you’ve given, they’re working. And we’re seeing that miracle happen in that hospital bed right now, so thank you. We are forever grateful for your prayers and support,” the family said.
The suspect in the attack, Rahmanullah Lakanwal, 29, entered the country following the disastrous withdrawal from Afghanistan in August 2021 under the Biden Administration. He was able to enter the country about a month later through “Operation Allies Welcome.”
According to a report from Fox News, Lakanwal had a prior relationship with various entities in the U.S. government, including the CIA, while working as a member of a partner force in Kandahar.
