Australian actress Rachael Carpani has died at 45.

Carpani passed away after a long battle with chronic illness, her sister Georgia confirmed Monday in a statement posted on Instagram.

“It is with great sadness that Tony and Gael Carpani announce that their beautiful daughter, beloved Australian actress Rachael Carpani, unexpectedly but peacefully passed away after a long battle with chronic illness, in the early hours of Sunday 7th December,” the statement said.

“The funeral will be a private event, to be held on Friday 19th December with close family and friends.”

The family asked for privacy and said no further statements would be made.

According to Deadline, Carpani was hospitalized in 2021 with severe abdominal pain and underwent surgery for an undisclosed illness.

Carpani built a steady career in both Australian and American television. She appeared in “NCIS: Los Angeles,” “The Glades,” “The Rachels” and “If There Be Thorns,” and starred in Lifetime’s legal drama “Against the Wall” alongside Jason George and Marisa Ramirez.

She was best known to Australian audiences for her role as Jodi Fountain on “McLeod’s Daughters,” the long-running outback drama that aired for eight seasons from 2001 to 2009.

Carpani’s death prompted an outpouring of tributes from fans who remembered her as a standout presence on screen and a familiar face from one of Australia’s most beloved television series.
