Trump Administration Launches 12 Days Of Federal Holiday Gifts Ahead Of Christmas
The Trump administration has launched a new government website, MerryChristmas.gov, aimed at showcasing the federal government’s historic role in shaping American culture, design, and public life during the holiday season.
The site, branded under the theme “America by Design,” presents a twelve-day feature highlighting moments of federal innovation, public works, and design initiatives that officials say helped “weave the fabric of the nation.” The rollout positions the project as both a seasonal celebration and a reflection on government-backed achievements that remain visible across American life.
“Over twelve days, we’re highlighting moments of design, innovation, and public work initiated by the federal government that helped shape the nation,” the website states. “Consider it a small holiday reminder of what America can build together.”
Each day features a different example of federal design history, including iconic posters, seals, architecture, and public art initiatives that emerged from government programs spanning more than two centuries. The project is overseen by the National Design Studio and prominently features material from the Great Depression era, when large-scale federal initiatives reshaped American visual culture.

One highlighted example comes from the Works Progress Administration’s Federal Art Project, which operated during the 1930s and early 1940s. According to the site, the WPA’s poster program employed artists to create uplifting, informative designs promoting public health, national parks, education, and cultural events during a time of economic hardship.
“Created during the Great Depression under the Works Progress Administration, the Federal Art Project’s poster program employed artists to design uplifting messages promoting parks, public health, education, and cultural events,” the website explains. “Its bold shapes and clear typography helped define American public communication, and the surviving posters remain some of the most iconic federal designs of the 20th century.”

One featured image displays a stylized travel poster rendered in deep blues, depicting figures standing inside a massive cave formation. The artwork was originally used to promote U.S. parks and travel, underscoring how federal art initiatives once played a central role in encouraging national tourism and civic pride.
In addition to its historical content, MerryChristmas.gov includes interactive features designed to add a lighthearted holiday touch. Visitors can view a live weather tracker showing conditions at both the North Pole and the White House, blending festive elements with the site’s broader educational focus.
The site’s minimalist design, snowfall animation, and calendar-style navigation reflect a modern digital presentation layered over historical material, signaling an effort to make government history accessible and engaging to a broader audience.
