REPORT: Final Text Sent By Greg Biffle’s Wife Raises New Questions In Plane Crash
A frantic text message from Greg Biffle’s wife to her mother marked the final moments before the family’s private plane crashed at a North Carolina regional airport Thursday, killing everyone on board.
Cristina Grossu Biffle texted her mother, Cathy Grossu, “We’re in trouble,” shortly before the jet went down, according to People.
“She texted me from the plane and she said, ‘We’re in trouble.’ And that was it,” Grossu told the outlet. “So we’re devastated. We’re brokenhearted.”
The crash claimed the lives of seven people: former NASCAR driver Greg Biffle, his wife Cristina, their children Ryder and Emma, Dennis Dutton, Dutton’s son Jack, and Craig Wadsworth.

Grossu said the group was traveling for a family birthday trip and was headed to the Bahamas, with a planned stop in Sarasota, Florida.
“To think that they would be killed on a birthday trip, that was just such a fun time for the family,” she said. “And to see the horrific way that it ended, it’s just, it is so hard to bear. I cannot believe they’re gone.”
The victims were remembered as a tight-knit family, with Grossu describing the children as having their entire lives ahead of them.
Authorities said the Cessna C550 erupted into flames when it crashed at Statesville Regional Airport. The aircraft had taken off and then turned back toward the airport in an apparent attempt to land. Investigators have not yet said why the plane returned or what caused the crash.
The families of the victims released a joint statement expressing their grief.
“We are devastated by the loss of our loved ones. This tragedy has left all of our families heartbroken beyond words,” the statement read. “Each of them meant everything to us, and their absence leaves an immeasurable void in our lives.”
The families asked for privacy as they mourn.
“We ask for privacy, compassion and understanding as we grieve and begin to process this unimaginable loss,” the statement continued. “We are grateful for the kindness and support that has been extended to our families during this incredibly difficult time. At this moment, our focus is on honoring their lives and supporting one another.”
