Trump Signals Major Escalation In Iran Amid Fiery Protests

President Trump sided with Iran’s street protesters Tuesday, urging citizens to take over their country’s institutions and vowing to punish regime enforcers as deadly unrest continues to rock the Islamic Republic.

Trump announced on social media that he had cut off all talks with Iran’s leadership, saying the regime will face consequences for killing demonstrators as nationwide protests intensify.

“Iranian Patriots, KEEP PROTESTING – TAKE OVER YOUR INSTITUTIONS!” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “Save the names of the killers and abusers. They will pay a big price.”

“I have canceled all meetings with Iranian Officials until the senseless killing of protesters STOPS. HELP IS ON ITS WAY,” he added.

The warning came as Iran’s ruling clerics struggle to contain a growing uprising that has spread from Tehran to cities across the country. Iranian authorities have already killed at least 646 protesters, while Reuters reported the toll could be as high as 2,000, citing an unnamed Iranian official.

The White House confirmed Monday that Donald Trump is weighing military options in response to the crackdown.

Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said diplomacy remains Trump’s first choice but made clear the president is prepared to act.

“He certainly doesn’t want to see people being killed in the streets of Tehran. And unfortunately that’s something we are seeing right now,” she said. She added that Trump “has shown he’s unafraid to use military options if and when he deems necessary.”

Iran’s regime has deployed security forces nationwide and cut public internet access in an effort to block images and videos of the violence from reaching the outside world.

The unrest marks the most serious challenge to the government since the nationwide protests that erupted after Mahsa Amini died in morality police custody in 2022.

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz went further Tuesday, suggesting the end of Iran’s ruling system may be near.

“I assume that we are now witnessing the final days and weeks of this regime,” Merz said while visiting India.

“When a regime can only maintain power through violence, then it is effectively at its end. The population is now rising up against this regime.”
