JUST IN: Major Detail From Renee Good’s Background Debunked In New Interview
Renee Good had grown concerned about the actions of immigration agents in Minneapolis, according to Antonio M. Romanucci, a lawyer for her family, who spoke with The New York Times.
Good’s death, at age 37, sparked tense protests in Minneapolis and laid bare the sharply divided views Americans hold over President Donald Trump’s immigration crackdown.
Supporters of the agents quickly framed the shooting as self-defense, with some allies labeling Good’s actions “domestic terrorism.” Liberal local and state officials rejected that account and moved to defend Good, casting her as a victim of federal overreach, despite video appearing to show her hitting the agent with her vehicle.
Yet in the days after the shooting, as Good’s name ricocheted through international headlines and federal immigration agents continued to surge into Minnesota, little was publicly known about her personal life. New details are now emerging, while parts of her background that circulated widely in early coverage are being challenged by people close to the case, including Romanucci.
Romanucci’s office said Renee Good and Becca Good, both U.S. citizens, moved to Minneapolis in March and had begun settling into the city.

“They thought that Minneapolis would be a better place for their blended family,” Romanucci said.
The couple was raising a child together, according to a spokeswoman for the law office, but they were not legally married, contradicting an error repeated by nearly all major media outlets in initial reports. Good’s partner, Rebecca Good, described herself as Renee’s “wife” in a video released shortly after the incident.
The law office said Renee Good had applied for and been approved as a substitute teacher and also served on the board at her child’s school.
However, Romanucci neither confirmed nor denied whether Good had joined a neighborhood group chat that tracked immigration agents, attended any training sessions related to monitoring ICE activity, or had observed agents prior to the morning of the shooting.
He did say that “they were engaged with their neighbors about this activity, and they were concerned about it.”
