NEW: Liberal Operative Behind Anti-ICE Church Storming Is Identified

Far-left activist Nekima Levy Armstrong, one of the organizers behind the storming of a Minnesota church during an anti-ICE protest Sunday, pulled in more than $1 million over six years while running a Minneapolis civil rights nonprofit focused on anti-poverty initiatives.

Armstrong, who describes herself on her website as a civil rights lawyer and “scholar-activist,” helped organize the disruption at Cities Church in St. Paul. Protesters interrupted services while chanting anti-ICE slogans and accusing one of the church’s pastors of holding a leadership role with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

In a Facebook post, Armstrong claimed the pastor was connected to ICE. The protest was part of a broader wave of demonstrations across the Twin Cities aimed at opposing a federal immigration enforcement surge tied to investigations into widespread fraud in Minnesota.

Armstrong previously served as executive director of the Wayfinder Foundation for at least six years, from 2019 through 2024, according to tax filings. She now lists herself as the founder and CEO of a cannabis company called Dope Roots.

Despite the nonprofit’s stated mission of supporting anti-poverty initiatives through grants, tax records show Armstrong consistently earned more than the organization distributed.

In 2024, the foundation awarded $158,811 in grants, while Armstrong collected a salary of $215,726. She also received an additional $40,548 in health benefits, benefit plan contributions and deferred compensation, according to that year’s filing.

In 2023, Wayfinder disbursed $133,698 in grants, while Armstrong earned $170,726 in salary plus $44,300 in other compensation from the organization and related entities.

The same pattern appeared in 2022. Armstrong received $175,000 in compensation, along with roughly $33,126 in additional benefits, while the foundation distributed $161,325 in grants.

Between 2019 and 2024, Armstrong earned $936,395 in salary as executive director, plus another $201,313 in health benefits and other compensation. During that same period, Wayfinder distributed approximately $700,052 in grants, despite reporting total revenue of $5,246,387.

The nonprofit counted Black Lives Matter Global Network Foundation as a donor. A 2023 tax filing shows the group contributed $20,000 to Wayfinder “to conduct activities to educate and support Black communities.”

The Walton Family Foundation, which makes charitable donations on behalf of the Walmart founding family, was also a major donor. Tax filings show it donated $2,340,000 to Wayfinder between 2018 and 2024.

While Wayfinder’s website is now defunct, archived pages reviewed by Fox News Digital show the group promoted its “signature Community Activist Fellowship (CAF) program,” which aimed to invest in activists “who are using their social, political, and financial capital to challenge the status quo and to disrupt business-as-usual within systems that perpetuate oppression.”

“Where others see deficiencies, lack, and want, Wayfinder sees opportunity for little revolutions that place demands on power and change systems for the better,” Armstrong wrote in a message to donors. “We get there by investing directly in the most basic unit of change in a child’s life, their mother.”

Armstrong has long drawn controversy for her far-left activism. She has been a leading organizer behind boycotts of Target following the company’s decision to scale back its diversity, equity and inclusion programs.

In a September 26 social media post, Armstrong praised Joanne Chesimard, also known as Assata Shakur, who was convicted of murdering New Jersey State Trooper Werner Foerster in 1977. Armstrong described Shakur as “a brave, wise, powerful, and revolutionary Black woman.”

Fox News Digital reached out to Armstrong and the Wayfinder Foundation for comment but did not receive a response. Black Lives Matter Global Network Foundation, the Walton Family Foundation and Walmart also did not respond to requests for comment.
