Trump Announces Investigation Into ‘Squad’ Democrat
President Donald Trump said Monday that the Justice Department is investigating Rep. Ilhan Omar, escalating his long-running feud with the Minnesota Democrat.
Trump announced the move in a post on Truth Social, writing that “the DOJ and Congress are looking at ‘Congresswoman’ Ilhan Omar, who left Somalia with NOTHING, and is now reportedly worth more than 44 Million Dollars. Time will tell all.”
The claim marks the latest broadside from Trump against Omar and comes as the president continues to publicly single out political opponents for scrutiny. Trump has previously suggested Omar should be jailed or deported to Somalia, where she was born, even though she has been a U.S. citizen since 2000.
He has also tied Omar to government services fraud investigations in Minnesota, accusing her of being “one of many scammers,” despite no evidence linking her to those cases.
The renewed clash unfolds as federal immigration enforcement has intensified in Minneapolis, the district Omar represents, adding fuel to an already volatile political standoff.
Omar responded swiftly but appeared unfazed. In a post on X, she accused Trump of trying to change the subject.
“Sorry, Trump, your support is collapsing and you’re panicking,” she wrote. “Right on cue, you’re deflecting from your failures with lies and conspiracy theories about me. Years of ‘investigations’ have found nothing. Get your goons out of Minnesota.”
A spokesperson for Omar’s office said Monday that she has not received any notice from the Justice Department about an investigation.
Attention has recently focused on Omar’s finances after disclosures showed a sharp increase in her reported net worth. House Oversight Committee Chair James Comer, R-Ky., told the New York Post that he plans to investigate what drove the jump.

According to financial disclosures filed last year, the increase was largely attributed to Omar’s spouse, not her congressional salary. She reported that her spouse holds stakes collectively valued between $6 million and $30 million in a venture capital firm and a winery.
Under federal law, members of Congress and their spouses disclose assets and income in broad ranges rather than exact dollar figures.
Omar has denied any wrongdoing and has previously said Trump has a “creepy” obsession with her.
Trump also announced Monday that he is sending border czar Tom Homan to Minneapolis to oversee immigration enforcement efforts.
The announcement comes amid protests in the city following recent fatal encounters involving federal officers. Demonstrations have erupted this month after the shooting death of Renee Good, who was killed by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement officer on Jan. 7, and Alex Pretti, who was killed in a scuffle with Border Patrol agents on Saturday.
Both incidents remain under investigation as tensions continue to rise in the Twin Cities.
